What you’ll be responsible for

Current-state discovery and assessment

Lead the technical assessment of a complex, business-critical Oracle estate, establishing the dependencies, constraints and migration risks that will shape the modernisation strategy.

You’ll work across areas including dependency mapping, schema and database object inventory, data lineage, workload profiling, TPS and peak-load analysis, query latency, RPO/RTO, SLA/SLO requirements, technical debt and application-to-database coupling.

Migration strategy and target-state architecture

Define the end-to-end Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration strategy and target-state architecture for an enterprise-scale production environment.

This will include migration-wave planning, heterogeneous database migration, refactoring and re-platforming decisions, domain decomposition, coexistence architecture, migration sequencing, high availability and disaster recovery, rollback strategy and the transition from legacy to target-state services.

Oracle dependency and business-logic decomposition

Identify and rationalise Oracle-specific dependencies and database-resident business logic before migration.

You’ll assess and determine the future treatment of PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, triggers, sequences, constraints, autonomous transactions and other Oracle-specific constructs, deciding what should be converted, refactored, relocated into application services or retired.

PostgreSQL platform architecture

Design a resilient, secure and scalable PostgreSQL target platform capable of supporting a high-value operational workload.

This will include cluster topology, compute and storage capacity, connectivity, encryption, backup and recovery, replication, failover, connection management, observability, high availability and disaster recovery.

Schema and database-code conversion

Own the conversion strategy for Oracle schemas and database code into PostgreSQL-compatible implementations.

You’ll work through schema conversion, data-type mapping, Oracle Number and date/time semantics, sequences and identity strategies, PL/SQL-to-PL/pgSQL conversion, exception handling, cursors, triggers, functions and compatibility remediation.

Application and data-access remediation

Work closely with application engineering and modernisation teams to identify and resolve dependencies on Oracle behaviour.

This will include ORM mappings, native SQL queries, database drivers, connection strings, stored procedure calls, transaction semantics, isolation levels, connection pooling, Oracle hints, error handling, sequence behaviour, and SQL query rewrites.

Data migration and CDC architecture





Design the data migration and replication architecture required to move a live production estate with minimal operational disruption.

You’ll define bulk-load and change-data-capture patterns covering ongoing replication, Oracle redo/archive logs, source and target endpoints, replication lag, transformation rules, reconciliation and recovery from replication failure.

Reconciliation, functional and performance validation

Define the controls required to prove that the migrated platform is complete, functionally correct and capable of supporting production workloads.

This will include data validation, row count and checksum reconciliation, referential integrity validation, regression testing, workload and concurrency testing, query plan analysis, indexing, execution plans, statistics, and performance tuning.

Cutover, rollback and production transition Own the technical cutover strategy and provide architectural leadership through the production migration.

You’ll establish go/no-go criteria, transaction-freeze and CDC-drain processes, final reconciliation, rollback points, backout plans, smoke testing, production validation and the transition into hypercare.

Optimisation, operational handover and Oracle retirement Stabilise and optimise the PostgreSQL workplace following migration and ensure it can be safely operated by the long-term platform team.

You’ll cover operational readiness, capacity and performance management, observability, cost optimisation, backup and recovery validation, runbooks, knowledge transfer, technical debt reduction, and the controlled retirement of legacy Oracle components.

What you’ll bring to this role

- Proven experience in architecting heterogeneous Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations within large, complex production environments
- Deep Oracle architecture and PL/SQL expertise, including stored procedures, packages, functions, triggers, sequences, database-resident business logic and Oracle-specific database behaviour.
- Strong PostgreSQL architecture and performance expertise, including PL/pgSQL, indexing, execution plans, transaction and locking behaviour, statistics, connection management and production optimisation.
- Hands-on experience designing low-downtime migrations using CDC and replication, including bulk/full-load migration, ongoing synchronisation, replication-lag management, reconciliation, cutover and rollback.




- Strong understanding of application/database coupling, with experience identifying and remediating Oracle dependencies across application code, SQL, ORM layers, transactions, connectivity and integration patterns.
- Enterprise-scale high availability, disaster recovery and operational architecture experience, including RPO/RTO, failover, backup and recovery, resilience, security, monitoring and production readiness.
- Strong database performance-engineering capability across Oracle and PostgreSQL, with the ability to diagnose and remediate workload, query, indexing, concurrency and execution-plan issues.
- Architecture-level ownership combined with hands-on technical depth — comfortable moving from target-state architecture and migration strategy into database internals, conversion issues, CDC failures, performance bottlenecks and production cutover decisions.
