Permanent part time working 22.8 hours per week The Community Health Section is seeking a self-motivated, innovative and engaging Environmental Health Officer to join the team. Environmental Health Officers play a vital role in protecting, promoting and maintaining public and environmental health within the community.

About the Position

Reporting to the Team Leader Community Health, the Environmental Health Officer will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of staff in the delivery of an efficient and effective range of services to customers in public and environmental health.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders you will be responsible for specialised activities that ensure a high level of food safety and environmental hygiene for residents and visitors to the City of Onkaparinga.

About You The successful candidate will have experience working in Environmental Health. They must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of all relevant health legislation, effective investigative, interpersonal and negotiation skills with an ability to manage conflict situations, coupled with a high customer service focus and superior verbal and written communication skills. A Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or other Public and Environmental health qualifications, as approved by SA Health, is an essential requirement of the role. Experience in wastewater is preferred but not essential.

Key Selection Criteria:

Comprehensive understanding and experience in the administration of the South Australian Public Health Act, 2011, Food Act, 2001, Food Hygiene Regulations and Standards, and other relevant legislation, including environmental health and food safety monitoring, surveillance and customer request resolution.
2. Ability to prioritise and organise work to meet conflicting demands.
3. Ability to develop positive relationships with customers and to resolve difficulties with service provision.
4. Ability to make independent decisions, having regard to policy guidelines, organisational practice and political influences.
5. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the maintenance of a supportive work workplace.
6. Interpersonal skills that encourage the development and cooperation and support of others.
7. Ability to assess applications and provide guidance on wastewater matters to external and internal parties.
