Role Description The Facade Engineer will work full time based in Sydney, NSW. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing facade design solutions, analyzing building envelopes for performance, and applying building physics principles to optimize thermal, acoustic, and environmental outcomes. The role involves collaborating with architects, structural engineers, and other consultants, preparing technical drawings and reports, and reviewing design documentation to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and sustainability targets.

The Facade

Engineer will support project delivery from concept through detailed design and construction, participate in design meetings,



and contribute to the continuous improvement of Surface Design’s sustainable facade design methodologies.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong skills in Facade Design and Facade engineering, including concept development and detailed design of building envelopes.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Building Envelope performance, including thermal, moisture, and acoustic behavior and integration with overall building systems.
- Candidates should possess Structural Engineering skills relevant to facade systems, including understanding of load paths, fixings, and material behavior.
- Candidates should possess expertise in Building Physics, including energy performance, solar control, ventilation, and comfort analysis.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering (civil, structural, mechanical), building science, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with facade materials and systems (e.g., glass, metals, cladding, shading devices) and relevant standards and codes.
- Proficiency with design and analysis tools such as CAD/BIM software and facade or building physics simulation tools.
- Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, and a demonstrated interest in Environmental Sustainable Design.
- Prior experience in consultancy or building design projects is desirable but candidates with solid fundamentals and eagerness to learn are encouraged to apply.
