Role Description The Family Law Solicitor will manage a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, parenting disputes, property settlements, binding financial agreements, and related disputes. Day-to-day responsibilities include client interviews, preparing affidavits and other court documents, drafting settlement proposals, attending conferences and hearings, and liaising with barristers, experts, and other stakeholders. The solicitor will provide timely, accurate legal advice, negotiate outcomes, and work closely with colleagues to ensure consistent service standards.

This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Greater Newcastle Area, with regular office attendance combined with some work-from-home flexibility. The position also involves maintaining file management systems,



staying updated on legislative changes, and contributing to the firm’s continued growth and reputation.

Qualifications

- Admission as a solicitor in Australia and a current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one promptly).
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in family law, including exposure to parenting and property matters.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and empathy.
- Sound legal research, drafting, and analytical skills, including preparation of court documents and correspondence.
- Effective time management, file management, and organizational skills to handle a busy and varied caseload.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team, including in a hybrid work setting.
- Proficiency with common legal practice management systems and Microsoft Office (or similar tools); familiarity with family law court e-filing is an advantage.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, ethical practice, and delivering high-quality, client-centered legal services.
- Experience appearing in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia or willingness to develop advocacy skills is highly regarded.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law (LLB or equivalent); additional training or accreditation in family law is a plus.
