About The Role

This position is responsible for facilitating the delivery of culturally focused group sessions to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 5 to 17 who have been impacted by family violence and provide them with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge, understanding and connection to culture. The position will be involved in the design and delivery of age-appropriate cultural activities to aid young people’s understanding their emotions, healthy relationships, building personal strength and self-determination.

Working with other Cultural Group facilitator and counsellors the cultural group facilitator will design and deliver high-quality group sessions to VACCA West – Melton and Werribee regions and create a culturally safe space for young people to regulate and heal after experiencing family violence over 8-week blocks during each school term.

About You

- Demonstrated communication skills, that are explicit, culturally appropriate, respectful and provide consistent messages to staff, clients, and stakeholders including ACCOs, Elders and CBOs.




- A demonstrated ability to work therapeutically and sensitively with Aboriginal children, adolescents, women and/or men who are impacted by and/or perpetrators of family violence
- Demonstrated experience in public speaking and group facilitation skills with community and young people
- Aptitude for teamwork and ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to prioritise competing demands and operational requirements
- Knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and Comprehensive understanding of MARAM framework, Rating of this position is Comprehensive, Tier Level 1
- Experience in group co-facilitation

Requirements

- A bachelor’s qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, family therapy or a related discipline along with demonstrated experience or willingness to work toward the qualification in line with the mandatory minimum qualifications policy
- Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
