About the Role
As a Graduate Power Systems Engineer in Rennie’s Grid Connections team, you will support renewable energy developers, investors and infrastructure clients through the delivery of specialist power systems studies and grid connection advisory services. Working across the full project lifecycle, from application and registration through to energisation and commissioning, you will help clients navigate compliance requirements, connection standards and the increasingly complex challenges associated with connecting energy projects to the National Electricity Market (NEM), while contributing to practical engineering solutions that support successful project outcomes and meet stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
Our clients include investors, renewable energy developers, network businesses, energy retailers, service providers and government bodies.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Graduate Power Systems Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. You will work alongside experienced power systems engineers and senior Rennie colleagues, building your technical capability while contributing to real grid connection and renewable energy projects.
Your role will provide exposure to power systems modelling, technical analysis and the grid connection process, with opportunities to support projects from early-stage connection studies through to registration, energisation and commissioning. You will receive guidance and mentoring from experienced team members while progressively taking on greater responsibility for technical analysis, client deliverables and project outcomes.
Experience & Qualifications
We’re looking for candidates with:
- Relevant qualifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering,
Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline, either recently completed or due to be completed.
- An interest in power systems: A strong interest in renewable energy, power systems and the Australian electricity market, with an eagerness to develop specialist grid connection expertise.
- Technical capability: A sound understanding of electrical engineering and power systems fundamentals, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Power systems modelling: Exposure to power systems modelling tools, such as PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, DIgSILENT Power Factory, MATLAB or similar software, through university, internships or previous work experience will be highly regarded. Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Fortran, for power system modelling, simulation, automation or data analysis is desirable.
- A proactive approach: Self-motivation, initiative and a commitment to learning and delivering high-quality work.
- A cooperative mindset: Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Previous industry or internship experience within the energy, utilities or renewable energy sector will be highly regarded but is not essential.
