This isn’t your typical finance role. This is an opportunity you don't often see.
We’re looking for someone who can connect the numbers, the data and the commercial story behind them.
As our Group Commercial Finance & Business Intelligence Manager , you’ll play a key role in helping our leadership teams make better, faster decisions across a growing portfolio of technology and tech-enabled businesses.
You’ll own and evolve our FP&A; capability, build smarter reporting and BI frameworks, interrogate the data behind performance, and turn complex information into transparent commercial insights. If you love financial modelling and forecasting but are equally comfortable getting into dashboards, data, SQL or Python, this could be a great next move.
About Third Door Ventures
Third Door Ventures is a portfolio of businesses helping consumers navigate some of life’s biggest decisions from buying property and building a home to education and other considered purchases.
Our group includes businesses such as:
- The Garden – an integrated marketing agency specialising in complex customer journeys
- Apartments.com.au – one of Australia’s leading new property marketplaces
- iBuildNew.com.au – a leading Australian home builder comparison platform
- ConversionAssist
- an AI-powered technology business specialising in voice, SMS and live chat agents.
Across the group, we have a team of 80+ people working across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and the Philippines. After more than a decade of bootstrapped and profitable growth, we’re continuing to invest in the systems, data and commercial capability required for our next stage of growth.
About the role
Reporting to the Group CFO , you’ll work closely with our founders, executive team and leaders across the group. This role goes well beyond producing budgets and monthly reports. You’ll help translate strategy into financial plans, build the frameworks we use to understand performance, and create the reporting and analytics capability that allows our businesses to make smarter commercial decisions.
You’ll work across finance, operations, product, technology and commercial teams, connecting financial performance with the operational drivers behind it.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Commercial Finance & FP&A;
- Own and continually improve budgeting, forecasting and rolling forecast processes across the group.
- Partner with the Group Head of Finance and business leaders to translate strategic priorities into clear financial targets.
- Develop financial models and commercial business cases for new initiatives, investments, partnerships, technology projects and potential acquisitions.
- Undertake pricing, margin, profitability and scenario analysis to identify opportunities and challenge assumptions.
- Provide clear commercial recommendations to senior leaders based on financial and operational performance.
- Build greater financial discipline and accountability across the group.
Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Develop and improve group reporting, dashboards and business intelligence capability.
- Build scalable and increasingly automated reporting solutions that provide timely visibility of financial and operational performance.
- Work with tools such as Power BI, Looker or similar BI platforms to turn complex datasets into clear and usable insights.
- Establish meaningful KPIs and reporting frameworks across different businesses and functions.
- Bring financial and operational data together to create a more complete picture of business performance.
Data & Commercial Insights
- Work closely with product, commercial and operational teams to understand the drivers behind performance.
- Use SQL and/or Python , where appropriate, to interrogate datasets and uncover trends and opportunities.
- Use analytics and emerging AI tools to identify insights, improve reporting and support better decision-making.
- Proactively identify performance trends, risks and opportunities rather than simply reporting what has already happened.
- Translate complex analysis into explicit recommendations that non-finance stakeholders can understand and act on.
About you You’re commercially minded, curious and analytical. You enjoy getting into the detail, but you can also step back and explain what the numbers actually mean for the business.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification.
- 5+ years’ experience across FP&A;, commercial finance,
strategic finance or a similar role.
- Strong financial modelling, budgeting and forecasting capability.
- Experience building or improving FP&A; processes and reporting frameworks.
- Strong analytical capability and confidence working with large or complex datasets.
- Experience with BI and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Looker or similar.
- SQL and/or Python capability would be highly regarded.
- The ability to communicate complex financial and data insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge assumptions constructively.
- Experience in technology, digital, marketplaces, SaaS, media or another fast-growth environment would be advantageous.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys building. Not everything here is finished or perfectly packaged and that’s part of the opportunity. You’ll have the autonomy to improve the frameworks, reporting and commercial intelligence that support how our businesses operate and grow. Why join us?
Make an impact
Your work will directly influence commercial decisions across multiple businesses.
Build, don’t just maintain
There’s genuine scope to shape how we approach FP&A;, reporting, business intelligence and commercial analysis across the group.
Work with senior decision-makers
You’ll work closely with founders, executives and business leaders, with visibility across both strategy and operations.
Broaden your experience
Rather than focusing on one business model, you’ll work across agencies, technology platforms, marketplaces and digital businesses.
Use data differently
We’re actively investing in better data, automation and AI capability, creating plenty of opportunity to rethink how finance and business intelligence support decision-making.
Grow with the group
As our businesses grow, so will the sophistication and scope of the finance and BI function.
So, you’re a little unique?
We love that.
We know great people don’t always fit neatly into a checklist. If this role sounds like you but your experience looks a little different to what we’ve described, we’d still encourage you to apply.
We believe better businesses are built by teams with different perspectives, experiences and ideas. We’re committed to creating a workplace based on equality, inclusion, empowerment and respect.
