Most accountants will spend the next five years watching AI change their job. We are looking for one who wants to build the change.

WHO WE ARE

Valont is an AI-first professional services firm. We buy valuable, profitable accounting, finance, HR, IT and advisory firms, move them onto our own AI operating platform, and rebuild how they serve small and medium sized businesses. We are not building software that sits beside a service business. We are rebuilding the service business itself.

We are part of Wattlestone, a Brisbane based private investment firm. We have just completed our first acquisition and have three more firms with terms agreed and due diligence under way. Our founder has previously built very successful technology backed operating businesses, and the people around the table have done this kind of thing before too. The structure is flat, the team is small, and it will stay small because we build with AI rather than adding people.

THE ROLE

You will own the accounts and results of the Valont Group: Valont HQ and every firm we acquire. Month end, consolidation, tax and statutory lodgements, cash forecasting, performance reporting to the executives and the Board, and bringing each new firm onto our platform. You report to the CFO.

That is half the job. The other half is building the AI agents that do the finance operations: payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation and expenses. You will work alongside our AI Engineers every day. You tell them what the process needs to do and what the controls must be, they help you build it, and you run it. Shortly you will not post a journal entry yourself.



Your job will be to make sure the agent posted the right one, and to find the next process to hand over.

You join while Valont is small, so what you build now is what the Group will run on when it is many times the size. Every day you will be challenged to think AI First, to look at a task and ask why a person is doing it, and you will be given the tools and the support to act on the answer.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are hiring for aptitude over experience. We would rather have someone curious who has automated one thing properly than someone with ten years of doing it the old way.

You will need

- CA or CPA, with around three to five years in a finance function or accounting firm.
- To have built something that replaced manual finance work, and to be able to show it to us. That might be a Power Query or Power Automate flow that builds your month end pack, a Zapier, Make or n8n workflow that chases debtors or codes bills, a Python script or Xero API connection that reconciles something, or a set of Dext rules with a before and after. We do not mind which tool. We care that you saw a manual process, decided it should not exist, and did something about it.
- Sound accounting: you have closed a month end, prepared financial statements, handled BAS, payroll tax and FBT, and worked with external advisers on income tax.



If this is your first move out of an audit firm, that suits as well. You have a sound knowledge base, will have seen how many businesses keep their books, and we can teach you the rest.
- Curiosity and a willingness to be challenged. You will be asked to rethink how you work and to question how we work. You should enjoy that.
- To be a self starter who works well with others. Nobody here will hand you a task list. You will find the work, and you will build it with the engineers and the wider business, not alone.

You do not need to have built AI agents before. Almost nobody has in a finance team. That is what you will learn here.
