- Can coordinate activities, manage competing priorities and work effectively across all areas and teams.
- Understands and upholds the importance of cultural safety, Aboriginal cultural protocols and respectful sharing of cultural knowledge.
- Is self-driven, organised and can work independently and as part of a team.
- Is committed to supporting Aboriginal participation, employment and leadership in the Aboriginal Discovery Program
About the role National Parks and Wildlife Service is offering a unique opportunity for a Discovery Coordinator Aboriginal Identified to join the Hunter Central Coast Branch.
This role is pivotal in supporting the delivery and growth of the NPWS Aboriginal Discovery Program in the HCCB. You will work alongside Aboriginal communities, Elders, knowledge holders, staff and partners to strengthen the program and create opportunities for visitors to learn and connect to Country through Aboriginal cultural experiences.
This is an Identified role under section 14D of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginality is a requirement of the role, recognising that Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge and community connection are essential to the work we do.
You will support NPWS’s goals by;
- Coordinating the delivery of Aboriginal and broader Discovery program activities and initiatives across the branch.
- Building and maintaining respectful relationships with local Aboriginal communities, partners and key stakeholders.
- Supporting the development and delivery of authentic cultural learning experiences.
- Promoting opportunities for Aboriginal people to participate and contribute to Aboriginal Discovery Programs.
- Supporting consistent,
high-quality and culturally safe delivery of Aboriginal Discovery Programs across all areas.
- Contributing to the planning, promotion, monitoring and evaluation of Aboriginal Discovery activities and initiatives.
Essential requirements This is an Aboriginal Identified role under Section 14D of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal Identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connection to community is a genuine aspect of the role.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and
- be accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
- A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
- Have a current First Aid Certificate, Australian Drivers Licence, or willingness to obtain.
