About the role

The Senior Planner provides specialist statutory planning advice to assist in the delivery of school infrastructure that meets the NSW planning legislation. The role will primarily assist the various Asset Management Units across NSW and the key deliverables of the role is undertaking planning due diligence and supporting Asset Management project teams with planning approval pathway matters and supporting the preparation and lodgement of Part 5 Review of Environmental Factors.

This role is based in various regional offices around the State.

Regional offices:

- Gateshead – Hunter / Central Coast Region
- Lismore, Grafton or Forster – North Coast Region
- Wagga Wagga, Wollongong, Queanbeyan, Batemans Bay, Griffith or Deniliquin – Southern Region
- Liverpool – South West Sydney region
- Blacktown – Western Sydney region
- Orange, Tamworth, Dubbo, Bathurst – North Western region
- Sydney – South Eveleigh
- Northern Sydney – Macquarie Park

Key accountabilities

- Provide planning advice on policies, regulations and legislation affecting school infrastructure.
- Assess development applications and impacts on departmental assets and operations.
- Support development approvals, consultant reviews, pre-DA meetings and consent conditions.
- Advise stakeholders on statutory and strategic planning requirements and approval processes.




- Support master planning, planning processes and strong stakeholder relationships.

About you

- Build and maintain robust relationships with project managers, technical experts and contractors.
- Maintain knowledge of planning legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clear planning advice to influence stakeholders and support statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve planning issues.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

- Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning and/or relevant experience of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and other relevant legislation as it affects land use and property development, including licences, subdivision, rezoning and construction.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education .
