You'll program, set, and operate CNC lathes and mills, handling work that ranges from small precision components to large industrial parts, across varied materials and mixed production quantities. This role is hands-on G-code programming - you'll write and edit programs directly, some CAM software involved.
Key responsibilities
- Hand-write and edit G-code programs for CNC machines (Fanuc, Heidenhain)
- Set up machines, select tooling, and optimise cutting strategies
- Interpret detailed technical drawings and tolerances
- Select and install chucks, jaws, fixtures, and workholding to suit each job
- Load and secure components safely and accurately before machining
- Machine components to high accuracy across varied materials
- Perform in-process inspection and maintain quality standards
- Troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes
- Work collaboratively with production and operations staff
About you
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist and programmer, writing G-code directly
- Strong understanding of machining principles and best practices
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Experience with one-off and small-batch precision work
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Able to work autonomously in a busy workshop
- CNC machining - 3 years (required)
- CNC programming (G-code) - 3 years (preferred)
- Full Australian work authorisation
