About the role

This role is in the Water Unit, Environmental Health Branch in Health Protection NSW. As Manager Water Unit you will lead and manage the team in developing programs, policies, and guidelines related to the provision of safe drinking water, fluoridation, water recycling and recreational water.

The Water Unit supports public health units, government agencies and industry to address water-related health risks. Responsibilities include regulation of drinking water suppliers and public swimming pools under the Public Health Act 2010 and regulation of water utilities under the Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Act 1957.

What you will be doing

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

- Lead and manage NSW Health’s water-related regulatory responsibilities under the Public Health Act 2010, Public Health Regulation, Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Act 1957, Sydney Water Act 1994, Water Industry Competition Act 2006, Water NSW Act 2014, Operating Licences,



and related instruments.

- Provide expert advice, including out-of-hours on call and incident management, and strategic guidance and support on policy and legislation relating to water quality and public health.

- Lead, motivate and mentor, including through developing workforce skills and capability with the Water Unit and local health district public health units, and developing and implementing of programs for suppliers of drinking water and Aboriginal communities.

- Oversee the preparation of reports, briefs and correspondence to inform or respond to NSW Health and/or NSW Government requests.

About you

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven and high-performing public health professional who is committed to making a difference in the health system. You will bring:

- Sound current knowledge of research and demonstrated extensive experience in water quality and health, including issues relating to drinking water, fluoridation, recycled water and recreational water.

- Tertiary qualifications in public health, environmental health, engineering, chemistry, microbiology or other relevant science discipline.

- Skills in working collaboratively and building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

- The ability to influence and negotiate, gain consensus and commitment from others, and resolve issues and conflicts.
