Progress Health & General Practice

Darwin NT | Part-time | $36-$38 per hour (negotiable based on experience/skills) + superannuation

Be Part of Something We're Building From the Beginning

Progress Health & General Practice is a new integrative general practice in Darwin, and we're looking for a warm, capable and genuinely people-focused Medical Receptionist to join our team. We are opening on 04 January 2027.

This is an prospect to join a practice where how we care for people matters just as much as the care we provide. We believe great healthcare starts with a team that feels supported, respected and valued. Caring for our patients is important while caring for each other is just as important.

We are building a workplace grounded in kindness, accountability, healthy boundaries, professional growth and genuine human connection. As a new practice, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the culture, patient experience and the way we work from day one.

What Makes This Role Different?

We don't see reception as simply answering phones and booking appointments.

Our reception team is often the first and last person a patient interacts with, and we believe that makes the role incredibly important. We want our patients to feel welcomed, listened to and respected from the moment they contact us.

You'll work closely with the Director, Practice Manager, allied health, GPs and nursing team in a supportive environment where communication is valued and everyone contributes to making the practice work well.

And because we're a start-up, you'll have the opportunity to help us build good systems and ways of working, rather than simply inheriting them.

About the Role

Your day will include

· Welcoming patients and providing a warm, professional experience.

· Answering phones and managing patient enquiries.

· Appointment scheduling and patient bookings.

· Patient registrations and updating patient information.

· Managing correspondence.

· General administrative tasks.

· Processing payments and assisting with billing.

· Supporting recalls, reminders and other administrative workflows.

· Liaising with doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and allied health team members.

· Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.

· Helping the practice run smoothly behind the scenes.

· Supporting the wider team with reasonable administrative and operational tasks as required.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

- Understands that people communicate and experience the world differently and helps to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.
- Is warm, friendly and genuinely enjoys helping people.
- Maintains healthy professional boundaries while using calm, compassionate communication to prevent and de-escalate difficult conversations.
- Is professional, reliable and well organised.
- Remains calm and capable when things get busy and can prioritise effectively.
- Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems.
- Can work independently while being a great team member.
- Is naturally attentive to detail.
- Respects patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Values respectful, collaborative relationships and contributes positively to team culture.
- Is positive, adaptable and willing to learn.

Previous medical reception experience is desirable but not essential. We're also interested in people who have strong customer service and administrative experience and are ready to bring those skills into healthcare. Experience in integrative,

functional or lifestyle medicine would be welcomed but is not essential.

Employment Conditions

This position is covered by the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020. Pay rate is above the minimum award.

What We Will Give You

We want our staff to feel supported and valued.

You can expect

A genuinely supportive team – you'll have people around you who are willing to help, communicate openly and work together.

Good leadership – you'll receive direction, support and guidance rather than simply being handed a list of tasks.

A voice in the practice – as one of our first team members, your ideas and observations will genuinely matter.

A positive workplace culture – we're building the culture from the ground up and want kindness, respect, accountability and teamwork to be part of it.

Healthy boundaries – we want our team to provide excellent care without sacrificing their wellbeing, and we actively encourage respectful communication, taking breaks and supporting one another.

The opportunity to learn and grow – you'll be joining a modern model of healthcare and will have opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills as the practice grows.

Diversity and Inclusion

We welcome applications from people of diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Progress Health & General Practice is committed to creating a respectful, inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels welcome and valued.

If This Sounds Like You...

If you're looking for a reception role where you're more than just a name behind the front desk, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in creating a great patient experience, enjoys being part of a team and wants to help build something special.

Apply with your CV and a brief cover letter telling us a little about yourself, your experience and why this role interests you.
