We want a carpenter who loves the trade and is proud of what they put their name to. Someone all round and proactive, who wants work that pushes them. You get things done, you have delivered architectural projects, and when something goes wrong on site you sort it out instead of building a case for why you could not.

You are done with jobs where nobody talks about building science, nobody measures anything, and the answer to a dodgy detail is that the plaster will hide it. You want to look at what you built and know it is doing something good for the people living in it. You are an all round, proactive carpenter looking for work that pushes you. You are driven by wanting something more, whether that is purpose or a better future. You have a track record of getting things done, delivering architectural projects, and keeping a level head. Your resilience turns obstacles into opportunities instead of excuses.

Who we are

A residential building company specialising in Passive House and high performance construction in inner Melbourne. New builds, and Passive House and EnerPHit renovations. We do not do standard builds.



The Australian minimum building standard is out of date and not good enough, so we build well past it.

Passive House construction takes a high level of precision and attention to detail to hit the energy performance the house is designed for. As a carpenter, that means you get to sharpen your skills and take real pride in the work, in a detail driven team with a good reputation.

The role

Full time, permanent, as an employee. You are on the tools as a carpenter, with progression to a project lead carpenter. This is a role where we are looking to develop someone into a site lead. We do all work from subfloors, frames, lock up, windows, external and internal membrane, high end fit out and work with various highly skilled trades.

Non negotiables

- Completed a carpentry apprenticeship, with 2 or more years experience post apprenticeship
- Current Australian driver's licence and your own ute, van or trade vehicle with roof racks
- A full set of tools
- Current White or Red card
- Australian resident or full working rights
- You love being a carpenter and being on the tools
- An interest in Passive House and high performance buildings

Handy but not essential: Passive House Tradesperson training, experience with airtightness systems, first aid certificate.

The path to Project Carpenter

We promote from within where we can. A carpenter moving towards running their own project start to finish would be showing us:

- Consistent quality with very little rework and very few defects
- Sound understanding of Passive House detailing and the ability to teach it
- Reading a set of plans ahead of the work and picking up problems before they get built
- Confidence directing the crew and coordinating subcontractors without needing to be asked
- Clear, early communication about programme risks and material needs
- Good judgement when things go sideways on site and no one is available to ask
- Willingness to take on the programme, safety and the client relationship
