Payroll Coordinator

Based at our Head Office in Burwood, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced payroll qualified to coordinate payroll operations across a complex, multi-site aged care organisation while providing leadership, support and continuous improvement within the payroll function.
About the Role
As the Payroll Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating, validating, reviewing and administering payroll activities across St Basil's Homes under an outsourced payroll model.
Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Human Resources, Finance and external payroll providers, you will ensure all payroll transactions are accurate, compliant and processed in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements. You will also provide supervision and support to the Payroll/ Accounts Officer while contributing to payroll governance, reporting and process improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising and supporting the Payroll/Accounts Officer, including coaching, training and workload coordination
- Coordinating fortnightly payroll processing through ADP
- Reviewing, validating and reconciling payroll outcomes before CFO approval
- Preparing payroll variance reports, reconciliations and payroll approval packs for CFO review
- Managing payroll compliance obligations, including Single Touch Payroll (STP), PayDay Super and year-end payroll reconciliations
- Administering salary packaging arrangements through SmartSalary
- Coordinating Portable Long Service Leave reporting, reconciliations and statutory obligations
- Managing Workers Compensation payroll activities, reimbursements and payroll adjustments
- Supporting employment lifecycle changes including new starters, employment status changes and terminations
- Preparing workforce service records, employment verification documentation and nursing pay progression reviews
- Acting as a key point of contact for payroll enquiries from managers and employees
- Maintaining payroll data integrity, governance and compliance with legislative and industrial requirements
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll systems, reporting and operational processes
About You
You are an experienced payroll professional with exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills and a commitment to delivering accurate and compliant payroll services. You are confident managing payroll processes in a complex environment and enjoy building positive relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Minimum three years' end-to-end payroll experience
- Experience working within an outsourced payroll environment
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience preparing payroll reconciliations, reporting and statutory submissions
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Experience coordinating payroll activities and meeting strict processing deadlines
- Australian work rights
