Our client is a major Queensland Government organisation responsible for delivering essential digital, technology and customer services across the state.

Their Information

Security function provides a broad range of cyber security capabilities across governance, security architecture, security operations, protective DNS, secure VPN, firewall services and SOC functions. As part of the Security Operations team, this is an opportunity for an experienced Principal Security Specialist to take ownership of a complex Check Point firewall environment and play a key role in its assessment, optimisation and future migration.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Information Security Services, you’ll join a team responsible for delivering 24x7 security infrastructure services across government clients. You’ll initially undertake a detailed discovery and due diligence exercise across the existing Check Point environment, which is currently supported by another service provider. From there, you’ll help shape the futurestate solution, transfer knowledge to the internal team and provide ongoing technical support while supporting the migration to the chosen solution.

Key responsibilities:

- Conduct detailed discovery and due diligence of the existing Check Point firewall environment
- Document the current architecture, configuration, connectivity, support model and operational requirements
- Assess the existing Check Point environment from a security, technical and supportability perspective
- Identify risks, gaps, dependencies and opportunities for improvement
- Estimate ongoing service management and support requirements
- Provide hands-on technical support across the existing Check Point firewall environment




- Develop options and recommendations for migrating clients to a more cost-effective and manageable security solution
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the future-state firewall environment
- Assist with the migration of existing Check Point firewalls to the chosen solution
- Troubleshoot complex firewall, network security and connectivity issues
- Work closely with internal technical teams, clients and external service providers
- Support the delivery of recent security initiatives and enhancements to existing security services
- Contribute to operational documentation, technical procedures and knowledge management
- Participate in rostered on-call arrangements supporting critical security infrastructure

What you'll bring

- Extensive hands-on experience managing and implementing Check Point firewalls
- Strong experience across Check Point firewall architecture, configuration, software, licensing and connectivity
- Demonstrated experience leading or delivering firewall migrations and transformation projects
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability across complex security infrastructure
- Experience conducting technical discovery, setting assessments and due diligence
- Ability to document complex technical environments clearly and identify opportunities for improvement




- Experience providing knowledge transfer and mentoring to technical teams
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a rapid-paced environment
- Experience working within large, complex or highly regulated environments

A Check Point certification such as CCSE, or an equivalent security certification, will be highly regarded. Experience within government, managed services, telecommunications, enterprise technology or other complex environments will also be highly regarded. What’s in it for you?
