The Prospect

Our client is seeking an experienced Principal to play a key role in the continued growth and leadership of their Sydney office. This is a senior leadership position combining business development, client relationships, commercial management, people leadership and strategic design oversight. The successful candidate will work closely with the broader leadership team to strengthen the Sydney business, expand its market presence and drive sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Relationships

- Lead the development of new business opportunities across the Sydney market.
- Build, maintain and strengthen senior-level client relationships.
- Identify opportunities for repeat work, new commissions and expansion into new markets.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects, opportunities and proposals.
- Represent the practice externally and strengthen its profile across the industry.
- Work collaboratively with regional and global teams to identify cross-office opportunities.

Commercial & Financial Leadership

- Take responsibility for local office revenue, profitability and commercial performance.
- Set and monitor revenue targets across teams and work closely with project leaders to manage performance.
- Oversee forecasting, resource planning, invoicing, fee recovery and project profitability.




- Provide commercial oversight across projects, ensuring agreed budgets, programmes and margins are maintained.
- Contribute to annual business planning, budgets and broader regional growth strategies.

Leadership & People

- Provide senior leadership across the Sydney office, working alongside fellow Principals and the broader leadership team.
- Lead, mentor and develop teams across multiple levels of the business.
- Support succession planning, talent development and retention of key people.
- Help shape a high-performing, collaborative and positive office culture.
- Support staff performance reviews, development and resolution of people-related matters.

Design & Project Oversight

- Provide high-level review and strategic direction across key projects.
- Maintain oversight of design quality, programme certainty, commercial performance and client satisfaction.
- Provide guidance on complex design, delivery, commercial and client issues.
- Ensure the practice maintains a consistently high standard of design and service.

Strategy & Growth

- Contribute to the development and implementation of the practice's regional growth strategy.
- Work closely with the CEO,



ELT and Senior Leadership Team on business performance and market opportunities.
- Support the efficient allocation of people and resources across the business.
- Contribute to strengthening the practice's market position and industry reputation.
- Work collaboratively across the wider APAC and global network.

About You

The successful candidate will likely have:

- 10+ years' experience within architecture, interior design or a related professional services environment.
- Significant experience in a senior leadership, Principal, Director or office leadership capacity.
- A strong network of clients and industry relationships across the Sydney market.
- A demonstrated track record in business development and winning new work.
- Strong commercial understanding, including revenue, forecasting, resource planning, profitability and fee recovery.
- The ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong design judgement and the ability to provide strategic project direction.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- A strong understanding of building regulations, statutory requirements and construction processes.
- The confidence and credibility to operate at senior executive and client level.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in architecture, interior design or a related discipline. Registration as an architect would be advantageous.
