St Andrew’s Cathedral School is seeking a dynamic, creative and theologically grounded Christian educator to join our leadership team as Head of Christian Development.

This strategic leadership position is responsible for leading teaching and learning within the Christian Development Department, including oversight of Years 7–12 Christian Development and Stage 6 Studies of Religion.

The successful applicant will bring energy, educational imagination and intellectual curiosity to the role. They will inspire students and staff, lead curriculum innovation and promote educational excellence through a distinctly Christian worldview.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the School Chaplain and working closely with the School’s Teaching and Learning leadership, the Head of Christian Development will provide educational, theological and organisational leadership for the Department.

You will lead the development, implementation, evaluation and continuing renewal of an engaging and coherent Christian Development curriculum. You will help students across the full spectrum of belief—from committed Christians to those who are curious, uncertain or resistant—to encounter the claims of Christianity thoughtfully and respectfully.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Christian Development, you will:

- Lead the development of imaginative, biblically faithful and intellectually rigorous Christian Development programmes.

- Oversee Years 7–12 Christian Development and Stage 6 Studies of Religion.

- Inspire innovative teaching through Scripture, story, inquiry, discussion, debate, philosophy, history, the arts and contemporary culture.

- Foster exemplary teaching practice and support staff growth through coaching, mentoring and professional development.

- Encourage teachers to experiment thoughtfully, share creative practice and continually renew the curriculum.

- Manage departmental planning, assessment, reporting, budgeting, staffing and compliance requirements.

- Use appropriate evidence, including assessment information, student voice and teacher evaluation, to improve teaching and student engagement.

- Build a positive, collaborative and supportive departmental culture.

- Work with School leaders to advance strategic educational priorities.





- Contribute to the wider Christian educational vision of the School and support thoughtful Christian integration across school life.

About You

You are a agile and imaginative educator who can bring significant ideas to life. You can make complex biblical, theological and philosophical questions accessible, memorable and compelling for young people.

You will demonstrate:

- A vibrant and mature Christian faith lived with integrity.

- Active involvement in a Christian church.

- A collaborative, relational and servant-hearted leadership style.

- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in curriculum design and classroom practice.

- A proven ability to engage adolescents in questions of faith, ethics, identity, apologetics and worldview.

- The capacity to inspire, coach and develop teachers.

- Professional credibility and a commitment to continual improvement.

- An ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families and the wider community.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will:

- Hold a recognised degree-level theological qualification, such as a Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Divinity or equivalent, including substantial study of Scripture and Christian doctrine.

- Be able to teach and lead consistently with the Anglican evangelical identity of the School, including the doctrine expressed in the Thirty-nine Articles.

- Hold recognised teaching qualifications and current NESA accreditation.

- Have relevant and successful secondary classroom-teaching experience.

- Demonstrate experience in curriculum development, educational innovation and the leadership of teaching and learning.

- Understand contemporary educational practice and the effective use of evidence to improve student learning.

- Demonstrate the capacity to lead staff, manage departmental responsibilities and contribute constructively to whole-school initiatives.

- Have experience teaching Studies of Religion, or the qualifications and capacity to do so.
