About the role
Lead meaningful change across one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities.
As Coordinator Climate & Resilience, you will provide strategic direction, leadership and planning across Wyndham City’s climate resilience, sustainability and environmental programs. You will play a key role in shaping how Council responds to climate change, strengthens community resilience and embeds sustainability across Council’s strategies, services and projects.
Working within the Climate & Resilience team, you will lead strategic and complex projects aligned to the Council Plan, Resilient Wyndham Strategy and Capital Works Program. You will identify emerging opportunities, develop innovative solutions and work across Council and with external partners to turn strategic priorities into practical outcomes.
This is a role for someone who can operate confidently at both a strategic and operational level. You will lead a team, manage budgets and business planning, provide specialist advice, develop policies and strategies, and represent Council with government agencies, industry groups, committees and community stakeholders.
You will bring strong political awareness and an understanding of the local government environment, with the ability to navigate complex issues, influence change and build productive relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
What your day will look like
- Lead Council’s climate and resilience work, helping embed climate change adaptation, mitigation and sustainability across Council’s strategies, programs and services.
- Lead strategic and complex projects that support the Council Plan, Resilient Wyndham Strategy and Capital Works Program, turning priorities into practical outcomes for the community.
- Lead and support the Climate & Resilience team, creating a collaborative and positive environment where people can do their best work and continue to develop.
- Oversee business planning, budgets and operational priorities for the unit, making sure resources are focused on the areas where they can have the greatest impact.
- Build strong relationships across Council and with government, industry, community and other partners to bring people together and drive positive change.
- Keep across emerging environmental and climate issues and identify opportunities through grants, partnerships, advocacy, policy development and innovative projects.
What you will bring
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental planning, sustainability, environmental science, urban resilience, environmental management or a related discipline, along with substantial relevant experience.
- Experience leading environmental, sustainability or resilience programs and projects, with the ability to develop practical and innovative responses to complex and emerging challenges.
- Proven experience leading and developing people, with the ability to build a supportive, collaborative and high-performing team.
- Robust strategic and commercial skills, including experience managing budgets, developing business cases and overseeing capital and operational programs.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across Council and with a broad range of external partners.
- A strong understanding of relevant legislation and governance processes, and the ability to work effectively in a complex environment with competing priorities and community expectations.
