Plant Operator / General Hand

Full Time, Nine Day Fortnight

The Shire of Wyalkatchem requires a Plant Operator / general hand to be part of a flexible, forward-looking team maintaining the shire’s roads and community spaces.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for operating a grader during the grading season and carrying out road and drainage maintenance activities. However, the role is not limited to the operation of this machinery and will involve a variety of other works and duties as required to support the Shire's operations.

Key responsibilities may include:

· Operating a grader for road construction and maintenance works.

· Undertaking road, drainage, and infrastructure maintenance activities.

· Operating other plant and equipment as required.

· Assisting with general works, construction, and maintenance tasks.

· Conducting routine plant inspections and basic maintenance.

· Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.

Employment conditions are in accordance with the Municipal Employees (Western Australia) Award and the National Employment Standards. A minimum HC Class license is a requirement to apply (MC class highly desirable) and you must demonstrate or be willing to work towards the following knowledge and skills.

Required:





· The ability to work effectively as part of a team; follow instructions and carry out work in a timely manner.

· Current Construction White Card.

· Organise work effectively and manage time well.

· Apply problem solving skills and demonstrate attention to detail.

· Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

· Awareness of Work Health and Safety requirements.

Desirable:

· Final Trim

· Experience in road, drainage and maintenance.

· Local Government or contracting experience in road maintenance

· Experience in the operation of plant equipment and an understanding of relevant plant and equipment maintenance requirements.
