We're now looking for a highly strategic, media-savvy, and politically astuteMedia & Public Affairs Managerto lead communications and media activity for the alliance and help drive national momentum for climate and energy justice.
This is not a standard media role.

About the role
You will work closely with Uniting's Media and Advocacy team, the Renew Australia for All Steering Committee, and campaign partners to lead the development and execution of a proactive national media strategy.
You'll identify media opportunities, craft compelling narratives, and amplify stories that cut through across cost‐of‐living, affordability, and community wellbeing debates — helping position climate solutions as practical,



common-sense policy.
A day in the role could look like:
Preparing a firefighter, a multicultural community leader, and a local mayor for a joint media stand‐upon why governments must invest in climate resilience
Brainstorming creative tactics with community organisers across the country — from talkback radio to social media to community‐led storytelling
Developing a media plan to land new research on energy affordability with key constituencies and decision-makers
In this role, you will:
Lead and deliver proactive media and communications strategies for the alliance
Write compelling media releases, op-eds, briefings, and campaign materials
Build strong relationships with journalists across state and national media
Identify and respond to emerging media and political opportunities
Support and train diverse spokespeople across the alliance
Develop shared messaging frameworks and communications resources
Coordinate joint media activity, including press conferences and campaign moments
Monitor and report on media coverage and impact
Trial innovative engagement approaches, including talkback radio, supporter activation, and digital amplification
Work collaboratively across a broad alliance of organisations with diverse priorities
Whatyou'llbring
You'rean experienced communications or media professional who combines sharp strategic thinking with exceptional storytelling.
You'llalso bring:
Solid experience designing and delivering proactive media strategies
Established media relationships and a strong news sense
Excellent writing across media, policy, and campaign formats
Experience developing evidence-based messaging for broad audiences




Confidence coaching spokespeople from diverse backgrounds
Strong stakeholder engagement and alliance-building capabilityUnderstanding of Australia's climate and energy policy landscape
Experience tracking and evaluating media impact
Digital and social media capability
Experience in climate, energy or environmental advocacy
Experience working with First Nations and/or culturally diverse communities
Experience working in coalition or alliance environments.
