- Location: South East Queensland.

- Employment type: Fixed-term, initial two-year contract, commencing as soon as possible.

- Salary: AMCS Level 5 $106,434 - $116,271 per annum (full-time equivalent), plus superannuation (12.5%).

- Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week (1.0 FTE), with flexibility to consider part-time, 30.4 hours per week (0.8 FTE). Occasional regional and interstate travel is required.

The Opportunity

The Senior Great Barrier Reef Campaigner helps deliver AMCS' campaign to protect the Great Barrier Reef and strengthen its resilience to climate change.

Reporting to the Great Barrier Reef Campaign Manager, this role turns campaign strategy into coordinated action across Reef water quality, protection of resilient reefs, and World Heritage and climate advocacy. You will lead agreed workstreams, identify campaign opportunities and risks, coordinate research and projects, and ensure policy, advocacy, communications and engagement reinforce a clear public narrative about the threats facing the Reef and the action needed to protect it.





Working closely with campaign and communications colleagues, conservation partners, government and other stakeholders, you will build influence, contribute to policy positions, represent AMCS in meetings and consultations, and act as a spokesperson where appropriate. You will also support campaign planning, budgets, grant and donor reporting, fundraising, and the testing of new approaches to mobilisation, policy influence and storytelling.

What you'll bring

Campaign Strategy and Delivery: At least five years' experience in campaigning, advocacy, policy or a related role, with demonstrated success developing and delivering campaign strategies.

Leadership and Coordination: Demonstrated ability to lead multiple workstreams, set priorities, coordinate contributors and deliver complex projects to a high standard.

Government Advocacy and Influence: Experience building relationships with government and political decision-makers, undertaking advocacy and representing an organisation in consultations, meetings or policy forums.

Policy, Communications and Media: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate scientific, policy and technical information into clear and compelling campaign messages. Media or spokesperson experience is highly regarded.

Partnerships and Collaboration:



Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience working collaboratively across internal teams, community groups, partner organisations and other stakeholders.

Reef and Queensland Context: Knowledge of Excellent Barrier Reef management, relevant government processes and Queensland politics is desirable, as are existing connections with Reef stakeholders, communities or the marine conservation sector.

Values and People Leadership: A commitment to AMCS' values and a passion for protecting the Great Barrier Reef, our oceans and marine life. Experience managing or supervising staff is desirable.
