Production Nursery Manager – Native Wholesale Nursery

Earthbuilt Environmental is establishing a new wholesale production nursery in Western Sydney, specialising in Australian native plants from tubestock through to advanced 100-litre trees.

We are looking for an experienced and practical Production Nursery Manager to help establish the nursery from the ground up and lead its ongoing operation.

This is an opportunity to build something new. You will have genuine input into the design and setup of the nursery, production systems, growing areas, equipment, processes and team structure, while developing a high-quality native plant production program that supports both our own projects and external customers.

This role will suit someone who enjoys being hands‑on, understands commercial nursery production and wants to take ownership of an operation and see it grow.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full production cycle, from propagation and potting through to growing, plant health, stock management and dispatch. You will also work closely with our construction, maintenance and bush regeneration teams to forecast plant requirements and ensure the nursery can meet upcoming project demand.

As the nursery develops, you will help establish practical systems, build a capable team and continually improve production efficiency, plant quality and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

- Helping establish and commission the new wholesale production nursery.

- Developing and implementing production programs for native tubestock, container-grown plants and advanced trees up to 100 litres.

- Planning production schedules around forecast demand, seasonal conditions and project requirements.

- Managing propagation, potting, spacing, pruning, fertilising, watering and general plant maintenance.

- Establishing and maintaining effective irrigation, drainage and water-management systems.

- Monitoring plant health and implementing appropriate pest, disease,



weed and nutrition management programs.

- Maintaining accurate stock records, production forecasts and plant availability lists.

- Forecasting and coordinating purchasing of seed, tubes, pots, growing media, fertiliser and other nursery consumables.

- Maintaining high standards of plant quality, presentation and species accuracy.

- Coordinating plant orders, picking, loading and dispatch.

- Recruiting, training and supervising nursery employees as the operation grows.

- Developing practical nursery procedures, quality controls and production targets.

- Maintaining a safe, organised and environmentally responsible workplace.

- Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce plant losses and manage production costs.

- Building strong working relationships with seed suppliers, growers, clients and industry partners.

- Working with Earthbuilt's project teams to understand upcoming plant requirements and align nursery production with project demand.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong commercial nursery experience who is equally comfortable planning production and working alongside the team:

- Previous experience managing or supervising a commercial production nursery

- Strong knowledge and practical experience in Australian native plant production

- Experience growing plants from tubestock through to advanced container sizes

- A sound understanding of propagation, irrigation, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and growing media

- Experience preparing production schedules and forecasting stock requirements

- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills

- The ability to lead, train and develop a nursery team





- A practical and proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

- Strong attention to plant quality, presentation and species accuracy

- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of outcomes

- A current Australian driver's licence

- Relevant qualifications in horticulture, nursery production or a related field

Highly regarded experience

- Establishing or commissioning a new nursery

- Implementing nursery management or stock management software

- Supplying plants for landscape construction, revegetation or bush regeneration projects

- Working with councils, landscape contractors, developers or environmental organisations

- Managing production of Australian native species at commercial scale
