Job Summary:

Build the software layer behind our managed event-internet hardware fleet: dashboards, monitoring, and customer tools, working directly alongside our CTO.

We’re looking for a full stack developer with at least 4 years of solid, hands‑on experience, someone whose foundation was built before AI coding assistants, and who now uses them to move faster without losing rigour. We put our money where our mouth is on this: we pay for Claude, Codex, and whatever tools genuinely make you more productive.

This is an on‑site role in Manly, with one work‑from‑home day per week (any day except Monday or Friday). If you’re after fully remote, this isn’t the one, but if you’d rather swap a commute‑to‑CBD grind for a workplace minutes from the beach, keep reading.

About PopUp WiFi:

PopUp WiFi delivers temporary, managed internet for events, festivals, activations, broadcasts and construction sites, anywhere connectivity needs to appear fast and just work. We design, build, and operate our own hardware fleet (Peplink‑based routing, bonded 5G, portable rack systems), and we’re building out the software layer that sits on top of it: monitoring, dashboards, and customer‑facing tools.

Key Responsibilities:

- Customer‑facing dashboards and monitoring tools built on real‑time network data (WAN status, SpeedFusion, fleet health)
- Software that talks to physical hardware (routers, APs and edge devices), not just other software
- Internal tooling that helps us deploy, monitor, and support gear in the field

We care more about strong fundamentals and the ability to pick things up than years logged in any single framework.

Who You’ll Work With:

You will report directly to our CTO.

This isn’t a seat in a large engineering org. You’ll be a big cog in a small machine, with real influence over how things get built.

- 4+ years professional full stack development across front end, back end, and databases
- Deep enough fundamentals to review, debug, and correct AI‑generated code. You know when the tool is wrong
- Daily, fluent use of AI coding tools as part of your workflow (prompting, agentic tools, iterating on generated code)
- Comfort working close to networking and hardware. You don’t need to be a network engineer, but APIs, Docker, and “why is this device offline” shouldn’t scare you
- Strong judgement on architecture and trade‑offs, the part AI can’t do for you
- Full, unrestricted Australian working rights (no sponsorship available)

Compensation & Logistics:

- Salary: $140,000–$160,000 + superannuation, depending on experience
- Location: Four days on-site in Manly, one WFH day of your choice (Tuesday–Thursday)
- Tooling: All AI and dev tooling paid for. Performance bonuses offered from time to time

Interview Process:

30 min, phone or coffee. A mutual fit check: what you’ve built, what we’re building, whether this is worth both our time

2. Technical conversation with our CTO

60–90 min, in person at Manly. A walk through your past work and decisions, not a whiteboard gauntlet. Bring a project you’re proud of; we’d love to see how you actually use AI tools in your workflow

3. Short paid practical task or pairing session

A realistic slice of our actual work, done on your time or side‑by‑side with us, and we pay you for it
