Your opportunity

As our Child and Family Counsellor, you'll join the team at Hambledon House Community Centre, supporting children aged 5-16 and their families through counselling, therapeutic interventions and case management. Drawing on trauma-informed and strengths-based practice, you'll help children and young people navigate challenges, build resilience and achieve positive outcomes. Working closely with families, schools and community services, you'll provide holistic support that recognises the important role family and community play in a child's wellbeing. You'll have the opportunity to build meaningful therapeutic relationships, work alongside a multidisciplinary team and contribute to lasting change for children, young people and families across Cairns South. We're looking for someone with experience in counselling, therapeutic support, case management or family support services who enjoys working relationally with children and young people and is passionate about helping them thrive.

Your key responsibilities

- Support children, young people and families through counselling, therapeutic support and case management.
- Help children and young people build resilience, confidence and wellbeing.
- Work alongside families, schools and community partners to create positive and lasting outcomes.
- Deliver trauma-informed, strengths-based support tailored to individual needs.




- Coordinate referrals and connect families with the services and supports they need.
- Maintain professional records and contribute to quality service delivery.

Requirements for success

- Experience providing counselling, therapeutic support and/or case management to children, young people and families.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong therapeutic relationships and engage effectively with children and young people aged 5‑16.
- Experience working with children, young people and families experiencing complex needs, including completing assessments, support planning and referrals.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed, strengths‑based and family‑centred practice.
- Relevant qualifications in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or a related discipline are highly regarded.
- Current driver’s licence with no restrictions.
- Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
