As Principal Manager, Media & Government Relations, you'll lead some of the QBCC's most visible and influential work. Guiding a team of media specialists, you'll shape how the organisation manages reputational risk, responds to complex issues and tells stories that matter to Queensland communities. From advising the Commissioner and CEO on high-profile matters to leading communications during critical incidents, you'll bring strategic thinking, sound judgement and strong leadership to a fast-paced environment. Working closely with government, media and senior stakeholders, you'll influence conversations, navigate change and help strengthen trust in Queensland's building and construction regulator. This is a rare opportunity to lead a growing high-performing team and make a genuine state-wide impact. Ready to lead the conversation and shape the narrative?
About QBCC
As Queensland's independent building and construction regulator, we play a critical role in protecting people, supporting industry and building trust in a system that touches every part of our community, from protected homes and liveable communities to jobs and economic security.
We support a $69 billion industry by protecting consumers, ensuring the industry is well supported, providing a safety net through the Home Warranty Scheme, and proactively delivering education.
A thriving building and construction industry benefits us all. But it only works when people feel informed, enabled and protected. That's where we come in.
We support industry, protect consumers and uphold standards. We make fair and transparent decisions, deliver services that build trust, and support a strong, sustainable industry.
About The Role
When the headlines start moving, you'll already be thinking three steps ahead. Leading a growing team of media specialists, you'll be at the centre of the QBCC's most complex and high-profile matters, helping shape the response before the questions are asked. From investigations, disputes and legislative reform to critical incidents and emerging issues, you'll provide advice to the Commissioner, CEO and senior leaders, navigate sensitive stakeholder relationships and steer the organisation through change with confidence. In a role where judgement, timing and leadership matter, you'll help protect and strengthen the QBCC's reputation across multimedia, government and community channels.
About You
Where others see competing priorities, media scrutiny or organisational change, you see opportunities to influence outcomes, build trust and lead with purpose. An experienced people leader, you've successfully guided teams through change while delivering strategic media, communications or government relations outcomes in complex environments. You understand how reputation is shaped across multiple channels and know how to balance proactive storytelling with thoughtful risk management. Whether you're advising senior leaders, engaging with government and industry stakeholders or leading your team through a challenging issue, you bring sound judgement, high attention to detail and strong commercial acumen. Experience across digital, social and analytics-driven communications will help you hit the ground running.
