The Opportunity

A 3 month temp opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Plant Accountant to join a major Australian manufacturing operation, supporting a key site through a period of change and significant investment. This is a genuinely hands-on site finance role, with responsibility across management reporting, finance business partnering and GL management. You will be the key finance presence on site, working closely with the Site Leadership Team as well as National Sales and Commercial stakeholders. The plant is embarking on a significant capital expansion program, with ambitious long-term plans to become one of the largest operations within the group. Experience with capital accounting, CAPEX or project finance would be highly regarded.

The Challenge

Reporting to the Financial Controller and partnering closely with the Plant Manager this role will:

- Take ownership of the site finance function, operating as the key finance presence on site and a member of the Site Leadership Team.
- Lead monthly management reporting, analysis and commentary, providing clear insight into site performance, cost drivers and emerging issues.
- Partner closely with operational, Sales and Commercial stakeholders to understand performance,



challenge assumptions and drive actions that improve profitability.
- Manage the core GL and balance sheet, including month-end close, reconciliations and financial governance.
- Analyse manufacturing performance across labour, materials, overheads, absorption and other key cost drivers, translating operational trends into financial insight.
- Own the site forecasting and budgeting process, ensuring forecasts reflect current trading conditions, risks and opportunities.
- Support a significant capital expansion program, including CAPEX planning, project spend, capitalisation and fixed asset accounting.
- Work closely with the broader finance team and Head Office, with a high level of autonomy and a strong focus on output rather than micro-management.
- Bring a commercial mindset to the role, looking beyond the numbers to understand what is driving the business and where finance can add value.

The Expertise

- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Solid management accounting and financial reporting experience, ideally within a manufacturing, industrial or operational environment
- Comfortable operating autonomously as the only finance person on site.
- Strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
- Solid GL and month-end accounting capability.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic and confident working directly with operational leaders.
- CAPEX, capital accounting or project accounting experience highly regarded.
- Available to work on site five days per week, with flexibility around start and finish times.
- Immediate or short-­time availability for a 3 month contract, with strong potential for the role to become permanent for the right person.
