Position Information

The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world‑class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non‑government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

About the Role

Aboriginal Education Officers provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students and their families to support improved learning, welfare and well‑being outcomes for Aboriginal students.

Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
- Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Training policy.

School Information

Narranga Public School serves families in the western area of Coffs Harbour on the NSW Mid North Coast. With around 650 students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds, we are proud of our inclusive and caring community. 17% of our students identify as Aboriginal, 9% as refugee and 18% as EAL/D. Specific Selection Criteria

- Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures.
- Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.

This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position.
