If you enjoy urgent and emergency veterinary medicine but want to experience itoutside the walls of a clinic or hospital, Ready Vet Go offers a role like no other.

Ready Vet Go is Melbourne’s veterinary ambulance and mobile urgent-care service, providing veterinary care in the community and helping connect unwell pets with the hospital care they need.

Our veterinarians work alongside an experienced veterinary nurse as atwo-person clinical team, travelling throughout Melbourne to assess and treat patients at home, provide pre-hospital stabilisation and safely transport pets to emergency and referral hospitals.

It’s clinical decision-making, teamwork, communication and emergency medicine in a very different environment than a clinic or hospital.

What does the job look like?

You’ll start your shift from ourbrand new headquarters in Huntingdale VICbefore heading into the community with your veterinary nurse teammate.

A shift alongside your nurse teammate may include:

- Urgent and emergency consultations in a patient’s home
- Assessment, treatment and stabilisation before hospital referral
- Home-to-hospital veterinary ambulance transport
- Inter-hospital transfers requiring ongoing clinical monitoring
- Palliative care and home euthanasia
- Longer-distance transports across Greater Melbourne and occasionally regional Victoria
- Communication with pet owners, referring vets, emergency hospitals and specialist teams

Some presentations are straightforward. Others require rapid assessment, stabilisation and a clear plan for escalation.

Every shift and case brings variety, and being on the road is a large part of the role.

Clinical medicine in the community

Working outside a hospital requires strong clinical judgement, adaptability and confidence making decisions in changing environments.

You’ll assess patients in their own homes, determine what can safely be managed there, recognise when escalation is required and coordinate the next stage of care.

Our ambulances support urgent and higher-acuity patients, with capabilities including:

- Oxygen therapy




- IV access and fluid therapy
- ECG, SpO₂, NIBP and EtCO₂ monitoring
- Sedation and anaesthesia
- Airway management and ventilation
- Point-of-care ultrasound
- Emergency medications and resuscitation

Our role is not to replace the hospital. It is to provide high-quality veterinary carebefore the patient gets there, support them during transport and provide a smooth clinical handover to the receiving team.

You’ll have a teammate by your side.

Every clinical shift pairs aVeterinarian + Veterinary Nurse.

You attend cases together, travel together and care for patients together.

The model gives you skilled nursing support during assessment and stabilisation, another clinician beside you in unfamiliar environments, companionship on longer drives and an important additional layer of safety while working in the community.

You’ll build a close working partnership with your nurse teammate while still having the autonomy and responsibility expected of the attending veterinarian.

A different pace of emergency medicine

Ready Vet Go offers a lower case volume than a busy emergency hospital, with more time dedicated toindividual patient care, clinical reasoning, communication and coordination.

Your role may involve:

- Working through differentials and treatment options
- Explaining findings and recommendations to pet owners
- Supporting families through difficult decisions
- Communicating directly with referring veterinarians
- Coordinating with emergency and specialist hospitals
- Providing detailed clinical handover

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from veterinarians who:

- Enjoy urgent and emergency presentations
- Are confident assessing and managing unwell patients
- Enjoy clinical problem-solving and real-time decision-making
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
- Value collaboration with veterinary nurses and referring teams
- Are adaptable and comfortable practising outside a traditional hospital environment




- Can work independently while valuing the support of a teammate
- Are comfortable driving and spending meaningful time on the road
- Take pride in professional documentation and clinical handover

Emergency or referral centre experience is highly regarded, but experienced general practice veterinarians with strong clinical foundations, good judgement and an enthusiasm for developing your urgent and emergency-care skills are also encouraged to apply.

Your onboarding will ensure you understand both the clinical and operational aspects of Ready Vet Go. You’ll initially work alongside experienced team members, with learning on the job actively encouraged.

You’ll require a veterinary qualification and current registration, or eligibility for registration, in Victoria.
