Peel & Rockingham Kwinana Mental Health Service - ‘PaRK MHS’
PaRK Mental Health Service was established in 1992 delivering Community Mental Health services to the Rockingham, Kwinana, and Mandurah communities.
The service commenced under the governance of WA Department of Health, managed by the South Metropolitan Area Mental Health Service. The Health Services Act 2016 saw the introduction of HSP Boards (Health Service Provider Boards) which have been in place since July 2016.
At this time, the South Metropolitan Health Service became a standalone legal entity with the governance of PaRK Mental Health service moving to SMHS and local reporting to Rockingham Peel Group (RKPG). In October 2024 RKPG MHS became part of the South Metropolitan Area Mental Health Service joining Fremantle Fiona Stanley Mental Health Services.
Staff working at PaRK MHS will see both the PaRK MHS and RKPG MHS titles used within the service. PaRK MHS is the historical name of our service and is how many of our consumers and staff will know the service. Documents and processes that are created within our service are identified as PaRK MHS however, some documents will utilise RKPG MHS branding until they are slowly transitioned backed to PaRK MHS.
Mimidi Park MH Inpatient Unit was opened on the 24th of November 2010. “Following a broad consultative process, the unit was named ‘Mimidi’ referring to the base section of native plants that regenerates after damage and provides nourishment to the plant” Rockingham Peel Group (RKPG) Mental Health Service Medical Co-Director, Dr Gordon Shymko.
The unit’s design optimises the use of space, light and glass and includes the unique development of quiet rooms, family rooms and a gym.
