The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, effective delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

About the Team

The Payroll Services section plays a key role in supporting the AEC's mission by managing the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) and undertaking payroll activities across the employee lifecycle. The team is responsible for providing advice and guidance to business areas across the agency on salaries and related entitlements, leave and general conditions of service in line with the AEC Enterprise Agreement, and related legislation, policies and procedures.

The Opportunities

The AEC is seeking multiple Senior Payroll Officers to support the delivery of payroll services that contribute to Australia's democratic processes.

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality payroll services by processing payroll transactions and supporting the Team Leader in coordinating work across the team. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will undertake complex payroll activities including leave audits, calculations of overpayments and underpayments, redundancies, superannuation matters, leave liabilities and taxation queries. You will also assist in delivering quality payroll services and advice across the AEC.

We are seeking a motivated and capable professional who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:

- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll services, procedures, operations and legislation in the public sector.
- Ability to undertake complex payroll functions, including leave liabilities, calculations of overpayments and underpayments, redundancies, superannuation enquiries and taxation matters.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering client-focused services in a payroll processing environment.
- Demonstrated high levels of integrity, accuracy and impartiality in carrying out the role.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills and the ability to complete tasks within tight deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide accurate advice to stakeholders on payroll operations, policies and legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve shared goals and deliver quality outcomes.
- Ability to use initiative, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities while achieving results.

Desirable

- Experience working with the Aurion Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS).
- Knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply this knowledge.

- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
