About the Chance

We are currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic individual to become the Area Director of Research with the East Metropolitan Health Service. This is a five-year position working 15.2 hours per fortnight.

We are seeking someone who will perform the duties of the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) Area Director of Research in a professional manner through the provision of leadership, coordination, mentoring and advice on key research initiatives for medical research within the EMHS, with a strong focus on the implementation of the research component of the service's vision, mission, and values statement and strategic plan. Key aspects of this role include, but are not limited to;

- Assist in the development of the strategic direction of Research across the hospital sites and throughout the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) through contribution to the development, implementation and regular revision of the EMHS Research Strategy in line with the objectives outlined within the hospital’s strategic planning documents.
- Strategically plan to ensure continuity of appropriate research mechanisms which will identify pertinent research opportunities, allow for present research trends and economic situations so as to maximise hospital research endeavours which are congruent with the immediate and long term strategic clinical objectives of the EMHS.
- Provide leadership through the development of state, national and international networks and collaborations thereby progressing the hospitals research agenda.
- Provide advice to EMHS Area Executive Group (AEG) and the EMHS Board on research, and research interests, which would enhance the hospitals prominence as a centre of research excellence within WA.

The East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) comprises an extensive hospital and health service network that aims to maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of more than 828,000 Western Australians in its catchment area.

Our hospital network works together to provide a combination of tertiary, secondary and specialist health care services including emergency and critical care, state trauma, elective and emergency surgery, general medical, mental health, inpatient and outpatient services, aged care, palliative care, rehabilitation and women’s, children’s and neonates services.

The EMHS consists of Royal Perth Hospital; Mt Lawley Hospital; Armadale Health Service; Bentley Health Service; Kalamunda Hospital; St John of God Midland Public Hospital and a range of community and population health services.
