The Role
Defence is seeking a practical and technically minded Environmental Test Technician (Vibration & Data Analysis) to support testing of military equipment, munitions and associated systems. Working under limited direction as part of the Environmental Test Facility, you will prepare and configure test items, operate vibration testing and data acquisition equipment, monitor testing, collect and analyse data, and provide accurate technical information for reports and decisions.

You will follow approved trial plans, safety controls and technical procedures, identify faults or unusual results, and contribute to improvements in testing methods and documentation. This APS 5 role combines hands-on equipment operation with data collection, technical judgement and clear communication.

Role-specific training can be provided, so applicants with transferable experience from trades, maintenance, automotive, manufacturing, laboratory, industrial or equipment-testing environments are encouraged to apply.

About our Team
The Environmental Test Facility (ETF) conducts non-destructive test and evaluation trials on platforms, explosives, munitions and other equipment across a range of environmental specialities. These specialities include climatic testing (simulated weather), radiographic testing (X-ray), and shock and vibration testing (shake and rattle). The ETF supports guided weapons and explosive ordnance test and evaluation activities. Its capabilities enable climatic, non-destructive,



vibration and mechanical testing of items, as well as other activities that support the artificial ageing of Defence explosive ordnance.

The Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU) Engineering team also provides direct support to the ETF. ETF personnel work in small teams to deliver quality outcomes for Defence and its customers. The team uses specialist technology including state-of-the-art conditioning chambers for heating and cooling, vibration shakers and radiographic equipment.

They can follow detailed procedures while using sound judgement to organise their work, identify problems and seek advice when issues fall outside approved parameters. They take safety, quality and accurate record keeping seriously and can explain technical observations clearly to colleagues and stakeholders.

Relevant experience may come from mechanical or electrical trades, maintenance, automotive, manufacturing, laboratories, Defence, test and evaluation, instrumentation, data acquisition or other industrial settings. Applicants do not need previous vibration testing or explosive ordnance experience, but they should be willing to learn specialised systems and work with Defence equipment and munitions.

The successful candidate will work effectively in a small team, support others when required, adapt to changing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement.
