The Role

We are looking for a Principal Process Engineer to join a Tier 1 client's owner's team as process lead on a tailings deposition project. The role is Brisbane based and runs for three months at industry leading rates, with site visits as the project needs them.

External consultants hold the design, and the client needs an experienced process engineer or metallurgist to check it works. Tailings will be pumped through a hydrocyclone circuit. The coarse underflow builds the embankment wall and the fine overflow reports to the storage facility. Reporting to the Project Manager, you review the P&IDs;, process flow diagrams, design basis and mass balances across the pumping, cycloning and deposition system.



You test the hydrocyclone selection and performance against the underflow specification the embankment needs, and you check slurry pump selection, line sizing and wear.

You also represent the owner. That means holding the consultants to account on scope, deliverables, schedule and quality, issuing clear review comments and tracking each one through to close out. You work with the geotechnical team to confirm the cyclone sand meets the embankment design, and with operations, mechanical and electrical disciplines to make sure the design suits the site. You take part in design reviews and HAZOP workshops, and you raise technical risks early with practical recommendations.

To be considered you must meet the following criteria:

- A tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or a related field.

- Located in Brisbane, or able to work from Brisbane for the length of the engagement.

- Extensive experience in copper or gold processing plants across operations, design or both.

- A proven track record reviewing P&IDs; and process design documents.

- Working knowledge of tailings thickening, slurry pumping and hydrocyclone circuits.

- Experience managing engineering consultants in an owner's team role.

- Explicit written and verbal communication with engineers, operators and managers.

- Current Australian drivers licence and full working rights in Australia.





- Experience with cyclone sand embankment construction, GISTM, HAZOP studies or brownfield projects at operating sites will be highly regarded.
