Human Resources & Payroll Officer
About the Role
Our government client seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources & Payroll Officer to join our People and Culture team. This is a diverse role that combines payroll coordination, human resources administration, recruitment support, and organisational development activities.
You will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, providing HR operational support across the employee lifecycle, and contributing to workforce initiatives that support organisational growth and capability.
Key Responsibilities
In this varied role, you will:
- Coordinate payroll preparation activities and ensure the accuracy of timesheets, leave records, allowances and payroll-related data.
- Liaise with external payroll service providers to ensure payroll issues and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Support recruitment and onboarding activities, including advertising positions, coordinating selection processes and preparing employment documentation.
- Provide advice on employment conditions, HR policies, remuneration, benefits and workforce management matters.
- Maintain employee records, personnel files, position descriptions and HR documentation with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Monitor staffing changes and manage HR tracking systems to ensure timely processing of workforce activities.
- Assist with organisational development, workforce planning, change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Research, collect and analyse HR data to support reporting, metrics and decision-making.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, submissions, executive briefs and other business correspondence.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Experience in human resources administration and/or payroll coordination.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Sound problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve HR and payroll matters.
- A collaborative approach, while also being capable of working independently when required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
We would love to hear from candidates who have:
- Qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
- Experience working within a public sector workplace.
- Knowledge of HR legislation, remuneration frameworks and contemporary HR practices.
- Exposure to organisational development, workforce planning or change management initiatives.
