More about the Multimedia & Graphic Designer, Ecommerce role at Medical Symbiosis
About Us
Medical Symbiosis is an Australian health company and a family business. One of the family is a practising doctor, a perioperative physician and anaesthetist, who created the products.
We've got three consumer brands.
Steady
Freddy covers men's sexual health in Australia and the US. SuperFastDiet focuses on women's weight loss and intermittent fasting, with a strong community behind it. Nutraviva, our recently acquired collagen and supplements brand, has a brand refresh and significant growth ahead of it.
All three brands are growing at once, which is a good problem and the reason for this role.
THE ROLE The role represents an opportunity to drive a meaningful impact across all three brands - it's the first time we are bringing this design function in-house.
It's a digital and ecommerce design role. About 60% of your week is paid social ads, and most of the rest is email, landing pages and web assets for our Shopify stores. There's a smaller slice of print, packaging and business-to-business work on top. It's a smaller share of the week, but it's real production work, so you'll need to arrive with some of it already.
You'll be given briefs, but will be encouraged to take them and make them your own. You won't just be designing in a vacuum either. Performance is carefully analysed, and we will be feeding back to you what's working and what isn't, so that we can all work together to drive the best outcome for the overall business.
This is a real opportunity to work with real accountability, make a real impact, and grow with the business. You won't just be throwing your designs over the fence and never getting to see how they perform in the real world.
THE WORK
Paid social ads, around 60% of your week
- New ad concepts built from a brief, mostly statics, across all three brands.
- Variations on what's already working: new hooks, headlines, angles and offers.
- Resizing and adapting everything for feed, stories and reels.
- Editing video ads. Cutting UGC and existing footage into ads, adding captions and on-screen text, and making it work with the sound off.
- Light motion, like animating a static or adding subtle movement to an ad.
Email, web and ecommerce, around 30%
- Email design for campaigns and automated flows.
- Landing page sections, web assets, banners and on-site imagery for our Shopify stores,
including work on the Nutraviva rebuild.
- Keeping the look consistent from the ad someone clicked to the page they land on.
Everything else, around 10%
- Print and packaging artwork, from layout through to files that are ready to go to a printer.
- Decks and one-pagers for our trade and business customers.
We work in a regulated category, so there are rules about what we can and can't say in an ad. We'll teach you those. You just need to take them seriously. There's a contract designer covering some static ads and an offshore video team for bigger video jobs. You won't be managing anyone.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Roughly one to three years of design experience, or a strong portfolio and a very good reason to back yourself. We'd rather have someone hungry with good fundamentals than someone with more years and less interest.
- Solid fundamentals. Typography, layout, hierarchy and colour. We can teach you our brands and our tools. We can't teach you taste from scratch.
- You design for screens first. Most of what you make will be seen on a phone, at speed, next to something else competing for attention. Digital, social or ecommerce work in your portfolio is a real plus.
- A portfolio that shows range, or at least the appetite for it. Studio work and personal projects are both fine. We want to see how you think, not just what a client approved.
- Figma. It's our main tool, so be comfortable in it. Some Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop helps, and we'll fill the gaps.
- Video editing. You can cut footage into an ad, add captions and on-screen text, and make it land with the sound off. Premiere, After Effects, CapCut or similar. You won't be shooting or cutting long-form video, but short-form ad editing needs to be something you can already do.
- Print and packaging basics. Bleed, colour profiles, dielines and getting a file away to a printer without drama. You don't need years of it, but you do need to have done it.
- You use AI and you're into it. We use it every day across the business, in design and everywhere else. We want someone who'll push that further, not someone we have to convince.
- You can take feedback. A lot of it, quickly, without taking it personally.
This is the single biggest difference between designers who get good fast and designers who don't.
- You're organised. Working from briefs, keeping your own queue moving, and flagging a missing piece before it holds everything up.
Experience in health or another regulated category is a bonus, not a requirement.
WORKING HERE
We'd like someone who's positive to work with and gets on with things. If a brief isn't clear, you'll ask rather than guess. If you spot something broken, you'll say so. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room.
There's a fair bit happening across the business, so it helps if you enjoy pace and variety. You'll produce a lot of design each week, revisions and resizes included, and you'll see most of it go live quickly.
WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT
- Your work ships. Most of what you make goes live within days, to real customers, with real money behind it. Almost nothing sits in a folder.
- You find out if it worked. You'll see how your ads actually performed. That feedback loop is the fastest way to get good, and most designers don't get it until years in.
- You'll get properly valuable at performance creative. Designing ads that have to work, not just look nice, is one of the most in-demand skills going. You'll do it every day, at volume, with the results to check yourself against.
- You'll be taught. Briefs, brand guidelines, direct feedback and someone to ask. This isn't a role where you're handed a login and left to it.
- It's a small team, so your work matters and you'll know the people you're making it for.
Our office is in a funky coworking space in Maroubra, Sydney, with great amenities and the beach nearby.
