The Opportunity
Are you ready to kickstart your career in water infrastructure? Join the Water Project Delivery team at MidCoast Council as a Trainee Water Network Construction and develop practical skills in the construction, maintenance, and renewal of water and sewer networks. This role offers hands‑on experience supporting essential community projects, ensuring safe and reliable water and wastewater services across the region.
What You’ll Learn:
- Operate, maintain and renew water and wastewater networks, treatment works and assets.
- Support the construction, alteration and renewal of water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Develop practical skills in operating,
maintaining and repairing plants, pumping stations, equipment and distribution networks.
- Respond to customer and emergency calls, while accurately recording relevant information.
- Complete formal training and assessments while contributing positively to teamwork and continuous improvement
By the end of your Traineeship, you'll have a nationally recognised Certificate III in Water Industry Operations and valuable hands‑on experience in a specialised, high‑demand field.
We're Looking for Someone Who:
- Has a genuine interest in working in water network construction and maintenance.
- Is motivated to build a career in this essential industry
- Demonstrates dedication and reliability through previous study or work
- Holds a P1 driver's licence, or is working towards obtaining one

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you'll be required to complete a pre‑employment basic skills assessment and medical check (medical assessment will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component)
*Successful candidates will be required to obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) prior to commencing on Monday, 1 February 2027.
What we offer?
Salary: The salary for this traineeship ranges from approximately $32,500 to $55,300 in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. Your salary will be determined based on your age, qualifications, and any previous work experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional.
An allowance of $101.32 per week will also apply (Trainee Water Allowance)
Location: Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Council Tuncurry Water Services Depot, Grey Gum Road. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Full time 38 hours per week over a 24-month period.
