Primarily based at Rankin Park, there may also be opportunities to work at local clinics and the Wallsend office as required. You’ll work closely with Staff Specialists, the Head of Department, clinical teams and patients to help ensure clinics operate efficiently across multiple sites.
About The Role
As a Typist, you’ll provide high-quality administrative and secretarial support to approximately 20 Staff Specialists and the Head of Department.
Your Day Will Be Varied, With Responsibilities Including
- Coordinating clinic bookings and telehealth appointments
- Managing appointments, templates and schedules in SDPR
- Following up correspondence and outstanding matters
- Transcribing medical reports and correspondence
- Responding to telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries
- Communicating with patients, doctors, Staff Specialists and clinical staff
- Managing last‑minute cancellations and changes to clinic requirements
- Prioritising your workload to ensure tasks are completed accurately and within required timeframes
This is a role where no two days are necessarily the same. You’ll need to be comfortable adapting to changing priorities, using your initiative and keeping things moving in a busy outpatient environment. You’ll work both independently and as part of a close-knit team,
with the support of an approachable Team Leader and experienced administration staff.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is organised, reliable and adaptable, with excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
You’ll Ideally Have
- Fast and accurate typing and strong keyboard skills
- Experience with transcription software
- Demonstrated competency in medical terminology, transcription and medical correspondence
- Experience using a range of computer hardware, software and electronic systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work calmly under pressure
- Initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal direction
- Experience in a healthcare or medical administration environment (highly desirable)
Familiarity with NSW Health systems such as SDPR and RIMS would be advantageous, however, training will be provided.
How You'll Be Supported
You’ll be joining a small, friendly and supportive team where you’ll have the opportunity to build valuable skills and experience in medical and outpatient administration.
You’ll receive comprehensive orientation and training, including familiarisation with systems, processes and clinic workflows, with ongoing support from your Team Leader and colleagues.
With responsibility for supporting multiple Staff Specialists and coordinating clinics across different locations, this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork and a fast‑paced environment.
