Resourceful Recruitment

Melbourne

Our client is a privately owned Australian business specialising in high-voltage primary equipment for the transmission and distribution sector. They represent global manufacturers in the Australian market and act as the local technical, commercial and project delivery arm for those partners.

Their engineers sit between the client and the factory, translating what a network operator needs into what can realistically be built, then owning that package through to site. Clients span utilities and major contractors delivering large-scale energy infrastructure across the country.

The team is small, flat and growing steadily, with direct access to leadership, genuine investment in training and a strong record of creating internal pathways as the business expands.

The Opportunity

The Project Engineer owns specialist high-voltage equipment packages from first client enquiry through technical specification, tendering, manufacture and delivery.

This is the front end of the business. You will be in technical discussions with client engineers early, working out what is actually required and what can be produced, then compiling the technical and commercial submission that wins the work. Once contracts are signed, packages hand over to the delivery team, leaving you free to focus on the next opportunity.

The breadth is unique: you will see projects from early feasibility through to equipment energised on site, and build deep product knowledge alongside the manufacturer's own specialists.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage high-voltage equipment packages from client enquiry through technical review, manufacture,

delivery and closeout
- Review client specifications, drawings, single-line diagrams, data sheets and technical schedules, and coordinate compliant supplier solutions
- Review supplier designs and documentation against client requirements, Australian Standards and applicable IEC standards
- Prepare budget pricing, quotations, tender responses, RFP submissions and technical clarifications
- Lead technical discussions with clients and international manufacturers on specifications, pricing and delivery
- Manage technical queries, RFIs, deviations and variations across the project lifecycle
- Coordinate manufacture, factory acceptance testing, logistics, installation, commissioning and after-sales support
- Attend bid negotiations, contract reviews and delivery updates with clients and stakeholders
- Maintain project budgets, schedules, risk registers, technical documentation and CRM records
- Travel to client sites and overseas manufacturing facilities as required

About You

- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Around 5 to 8 years' experience in electrical project engineering on high-voltage equipment, substations,

transmission or power infrastructure — strong candidates with less experience and transparent potential will be considered
- Background with a utility, EPC contractor, engineering consultancy, OEM or specialist electrical equipment supplier
- Working knowledge of high-voltage primary equipment and substation interfaces, including transformers, instrument transformers, switchgear, GIS/AIS, circuit breakers, disconnectors and protection relays
- Familiarity with Australian utility standards, Australian Standards and IEC requirements
- Demonstrated experience preparing tenders, quotations and budget pricing, and comfort with long, document-heavy bid cycles
- Experience reviewing technical specifications, drawings, single-line diagrams and supplier documentation
- Exceptional communication — this role sits between client and factory, and conveying technical information accurately to the right party is the single most important attribute for success
- Meticulous attention to detail; this is high-value work where small errors carry significant consequences
- Commercially aware, self‑directed and comfortable owning outcomes with genuine autonomy
- Melbourne‑based with a realistic commute, and comfortable working primarily from an office
- Full Australian working rights and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

Experience on 66kV to 500kV projects, exposure to renewable energy, BESS or network augmentation work, and competence with CRM and project management platforms will be well regarded.
