The Opportunity:

McArthur is seeking a Right to Information Officer - who is responsible for managing and processing all Right to Information requests in accordance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Tasmania) or other applicable legislation, ensuring transparency and timely disclosure of information under the direction of the Manager, Legal and Corporate Governance.

This is a great temporary opportunity for 3-months with a high possibility of extension. Our client is in a fantastic location walking distance from the Dock, offering full-time hours with a casual rate of $74.70ph + Superannuation.

Key Responsibilities:

- To provide timely and qualified assessment and delivery of the Council's obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009, (RTI Act
- Provide advice to Council staff on their obligations under the RTI Act, or to support the Manager Legal & Corporate Governance in providing such advice.
- On occasion to provide advice to the CEO on their functions and duties as 'Principal Officer' under the RTI Act. Noting that part of that delegation includes internal review of the decisions of other delegated officers, including the Manager Legal & Corporate Governance.
- To follow the reasonable lawful directions of the Manager Legal & Corporate Governance,



or the CEO when they are acting as the 'Principal Officer.'
- To engage with the Office of the Ombudsman, either directly, or drafting correspondence to the Ombudsman as and when required at the direction of the Manager Legal & Corporate Governance, or CEO.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of RTI matters, associated SharePoint storage and dashboards.
- Responsible for the keeping and updating of relevant files relating to live and archived RTI Applications.
- Supporting the Manager Legal & Corporate Governance to ensure timely reporting of annual RTI statistics to the Department of Justice.

Selection Criteria:

- Demonstrated understanding of the Right to Information Act or equivalent legislation, including statutory obligations, exemptions, and timelines. and associated appeal mechanisms.
- Previous experience working within the RTI Act or comparable legislation from another jurisdiction.
- An understanding of best practice public policy regarding transparency and accountability.
- Proven experience in managing sensitive information ethically and confidentially.
- An understanding of the role of the Tasmanian Ombudsman.
- A proven ability to work autonomously, while meeting internal and external deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting responses and liaising with applicants, internal teams, and oversight bodies (e.g., Ombudsman).
- Experience working within SharePoint and MS 360 Suite.
