Base Salary Level B, $132,533 - $157,381 p.a + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity
This position is exempt under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, to conduct targeted recruitment programs for women. The University of Sydney is seeking applications for a Lecturer in Igneous Geology. The primary function of this position is to undertake research and teaching in the field of geology while also making a significant team-oriented contribution to research using methodologies applied to igneous petrology and/or igneous geochemistry. Fieldwork experience is essential and a research profile that demonstrates a potential connection towards external collaboration with industry and government is highly desirable. The position has responsibility for teaching courses in new and existing curricula at the undergraduate and postgraduate level under the broad theme of igneous petrology. The applicant will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced concepts in geology effectively in the classroom, field and laboratory, supported by digital-based approaches including virtual training and teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- deliver high-quality teaching in geology and cross-disciplinary settings across undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels, in classroom, field and laboratory environments
- design and deliver engaging educational programs and learning experiences that respond to student needs and meet curriculum requirements
- lead and undertake fieldwork, including the collection of field data to enrich teaching
- build partnerships with industry, academic and government organisations to advance teaching, learning and research outcomes
- develop a research profile appropriate to career stage and opportunity, evidenced through high-quality publications and success in attracting external research funding
- contribute effectively to administrative and service activities across the School
- foster a positive, inclusive and collaborative workplace culture
- support the strategic direction of the School, Faculty and University
About you

- PhD in geology, with specialisation in igneous petrology, Earth materials and/or magmatic processes
- knowledge of igneous petrology and igneous geochemistry, and familiarity with metamorphic processes
- skills spanning light and electron microscopy, mineral chemistry, thermobarometry and phase equilibrium application, or skills in other relevant analytical or interpretive methods
- holds a current driver’s license
