Kowanyama State School on the Gulf of Carpentaria is seeking a passionate, experienced and dedicated Deputy Principal to join the current school team at the beginning of Term 1 2027, until 25 June 2027, unless otherwise determined.

Who are we?
Kowanyama State School is a Kindy - Year 10 remote indigenous community school on the Gulf of Carpentaria in Far North Queensland. With approx. 200 students we strive every day to uphold our school values: respect learning, respect community and respect culture. Our students are all EALD learners, active and enthusiastic.

Your Opportunity
Reporting to the school Principal, as a Deputy Principal you will directly contribute to the continuous improvement in educational outcomes for school students at Kowanyama SS. You will work with the Principal to successfully implement Departmental priorities in curriculum, and teaching and learning.
The Role & Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal to lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Deputise for the Principal when required.
- Uphold the deputy principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing career development.
- Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business.
- Be futures oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling.
- Manage resources to achieve goals.
