Technical Services Manager
Leading Not-for-Profit Private Healthcare Group | Richmond
Office Based Role - 5 days per week
I'm working exclusively with a well-established, mission-driven not-for-profit private healthcare group on a newly redesigned Technical Services Manager role. This is a genuine opportunity to lead and rebuild a technical services function from the ground up, in an organisation where technology directly supports doctors, clinicians and patients across multiple sites every single day.
The current state, honestly
The organisation is taking the opportunity to reset how this function operates. Right now, on-site technical support runs reactively, with some technical debt built up over time and room to bring in proper structure, accountability and consistency. There's a small, capable team already in place, including support specialists and a unified communications specialist, with three further support roles planned. What's missing is a steady hand to bring cadence, clear priorities, coaching and a genuine leadership presence.
If you're someone who wants a tidy, already-mature environment to maintain, this probably isn't the role for you. If you want the mandate to build one properly, this is a rare prospect to do just that.
What you'll be doing
- Leading a growing team of technical support specialists across multiple hospital sites, with three more hires to bring on as the team scales up
- Owning level 2 and 2.5 support, bringing the technical foundations to lead a technical team while also stepping back to plan, prioritise and set standards for the team
- Becoming the trusted, visible technology partner for doctors, clinicians and site leaders,
understanding their workflows and making sure technology never gets in the way of patient care
- Bringing structure where there's currently ad hoc firefighting; clear KPIs, regular reporting, better collaboration with the service desk, and real accountability across the team
- Building genuine relationships with general managers and stakeholders across each site, so technology is seen as a trusted partner rather than a support function
The scope of the role
- Technology operations and service delivery, overseeing on-site technical support, driving ITIL-aligned practice, and building a consistent, high-quality service culture across all sites
- Technology business partnering, becoming the primary technology contact for site General Managers and business leaders, and translating operational needs into practical technology solutions
- Doctor support across all sites, ensuring VMOs, JMOs and medical students receive consistently reliable technology support, with systems tested and ready ahead of surgical, consultation and procedural lists
- End-user hardware asset management, owning the full device lifecycle from procurement and deployment through to secure retirement, and keeping asset records accurate and audit-ready
- Customer service and culture,
role-modelling a high standard of service in every interaction, in line with the organisation's values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence
What you'll bring
- A relevant IT or Computer Science qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Substantial experience in technical support and people leadership
- ITIL certification, or strong working knowledge of ITIL-aligned processes
- Experience managing asset lifecycle, procurement and vendor relationships
- Experience leading teams across multiple or dispersed sites
What's on offer
- A genuinely visible leadership seat with a clear mandate to shape how the team operates and grows, not just inherit someone else's playbook
- Greenfield opportunity to set the team up for success by building better relationships, reducing chaos and uplifting capability.
- Office based role in Richmond with one day per week visiting different hospital sites.
What we're looking for
This role needs a mature, steady leader more than it needs a purely technical specialist. You'll have strong hands-on technical grounding in end-user computing and on-site support, but just as important is your ability to bring calm, structure and clear boundaries to a team that's ready for stronger leadership. You'll be comfortable communicating with clinicians, doctors and senior stakeholders in plain, confident language, and genuinely motivated to build capability in others rather than simply keep the wheels turning. Healthcare or hospital experience is a nice-to-have here, not a must-have.
