As the Transition Centre Second in Command (2IC), you will play an important role in supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families as they prepare to transition from military service to civilian life. Working closely with the Officer in Charge (OIC), you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality transition services that help members navigate their individual transition journey and access available support programs and services.
Operating within a dynamic and people-focused environment, the 2IC supports the leadership and day-to-day management of an integrated workforce comprising ADF, Australian Public Service (APS) and contracted personnel. You will provide guidance on more complex transition matters, support quality assurance and governance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and outcomes for members.
The Transition Centre 2IC will build productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including Defence personnel, service providers and external organisations. You will act as an escalation point for complex enquiries, assist with case management activities and work collaboratively to identify practical solutions to support members with complex transition needs.
Key aspects of the role include supporting the delivery of the Defence Force Transition Program, conducting transition support sessions, assisting members to develop individualised Transition Plans, facilitating referrals to specialist services and providing advice on available transition benefits and administrative processes.

The Joint Transition Authority (JTA) leads Defence's transition system, ensuring ADF members and their families are supported throughout their transition, both during service and as they move to civilian life. Transition Service Delivery staff are located predominantly in JTA Transition Centres, located across major military establishments nationally.
In line with Defence's strategic priorities, JTA is implementing a national operating model that delivers a streamlined and consistent transition experience for all ADF members, regardless of Service. The team is committed to helping members and their families prepare early for transition, build confidence for life after service and access the support, information and opportunities they need to achieve positive outcomes.

Your ability to work collaboratively within integrated teams will be critical to achieving positive outcomes for members and their families.The successful candidate will be comfortable presenting information large groups,
adapting their communication style to suit different audiences and delivering information in a clear and professional manner.
The ideal candidate will use a trauma-informed approach when supporting members, recognising the diverse experiences and circumstances they may face during transition. You will respond to sensitive matters with empathy, professionalism and sound judgement.Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are essential. You will maintain accurate case notes and records, with an understanding of the importance of documenting information in accordance with privacy requirements and information management standards.
Most importantly, you will exercise initiative, sound judgement and professionalism when supporting members with varying and sometimes complex needs. You will be committed to continuous improvement and delivering services that help ADF members and their families prepare for a successful transition from military service to civilian life.
Security Clearance:
