Role Description
The RPN2 provides specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic environment. The
role combines therapeutic engagement, recovery-focused practice, risk management, care
coordination and participation in multidisciplinary treatment programs.
RPN2s may also rotate through the Early Intervention Support Team (EIST), supporting clinical teams
with de-escalation, behavioural management and therapeutic engagement across the hospital.
Training will be provided.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Minimum of Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (or recognised equivalent)
- Eligibility to work in Australia
- Ability to satisfy police and security screening requirements
Preferred Experience
- Typically 2+ years post-registration psychiatric nursing experience
Highly Desirable Experience
- Acute psychiatric units
- Psychiatric intensive care units (PICU)
- Correctional or prison health services
- High dependency mental health environments
Clinical Capability Requirements
Demonstrated ability to:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
- Develop and implement recovery-focused care plans
- Undertake risk assessment and risk management planning
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications
- Deliver group-based therapeutic interventions
- Engage consumers experiencing severe and persistent mental illness
