Job Description
The Trustee for Omtech Unit trust Omtech Communication is a Queensland-based telecommunications and civil infrastructure company delivering end-to-end solutions across fibre optics, data cabling, underground infrastructure and pit-and-pipe installations. We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Telecommunications Network Planner to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning the development and expansion of customer access telecommunications infrastructure, with a particular focus on fibre-optic and associated underground network projects.
You will assess network and site requirements, develop practical network routes and plans, coordinate with project stakeholders and provide technical planning support through to project delivery. The successful candidate will combine strong telecommunications knowledge with analytical, planning and stakeholder coordination skills to help ensure network infrastructure is designed and delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical and client requirements.

Task & responsibilities
As a Telecommunications Network Planner at Omtech Communication, your key responsibilities will include: Plan the development, expansion and modification of customer access telecommunications networks, with a focus on fibre-optic and associated underground infrastructure. Review client requirements, network information, site surveys, existing infrastructure and project specifications to determine practical network solutions and proposed cable routes.
Develop network plans and layouts covering fibre routes, pit-and-pipe infrastructure, cable pathways, connection points and other network requirements. Assess existing network capacity and infrastructure conditions and identify requirements for recent connections, extensions, upgrades or modifications. Coordinate with project teams, field personnel, clients, contractors, suppliers and service providers to ensure planned telecommunications solutions can be effectively delivered.
Provide technical advice and planning support regarding network routes, fibre infrastructure, cabling requirements and integration with existing telecommunications infrastructure. Maintain accurate network plans, technical records, asset information, project documentation and details regarding the location and status of telecommunications infrastructure. Monitor network and project information and assist in identifying technical constraints, network performance issues and infrastructure requirements that may affect planned works.
Liaise with vendors, suppliers, contractors and external service providers regarding equipment, materials, technical requirements, project deliverables and agreed service requirements. Review field and site information, including underground utility locations and existing infrastructure, to identify potential conflicts and support safe and efficient network construction. Work with field and technical teams to resolve network design, routing and infrastructure issues identified during project planning and delivery.
Ensure network planning documentation and proposed infrastructure comply with relevant telecommunications standards, quality requirements, client specifications and company procedures. Provide ongoing technical planning support during implementation,
testing and commissioning and update network documentation to reflect approved changes and completed works.
Qualification & experience
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have: AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Telecommunications, Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering or a related discipline Previous experience in telecommunications network planning, design or a closely related technical role. Practical knowledge of fibre-optic and customer access telecommunications networks. Understanding of fibre routes, pit-and-pipe infrastructure, underground utilities and cable pathways.
Ability to interpret telecommunications drawings, network plans, site information and technical specifications. Experience preparing and maintaining network plans and technical documentation. Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills with the ability to coordinate with clients, contractors, field teams, suppliers and other technical stakeholders. Strong attention to detail and commitment to telecommunications quality and safety requirements. Current driver's licence and relevant construction or telecommunications industry certifications will be highly regarded.
