OVERVIEW Swinburne University of Technology is seeking an International Student Adviser to support international students across personal, cultural, academic, welfare, and safety matters. This full-time, ongoing position is based at the Hawthorn campus, with work across other Swinburne campuses as required. The role involves confidential student support, case management, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and contribution to programs that strengthen student engagement and wellbeing. The position sits within a collaborative student services environment focused on delivering high-quality support while ensuring compliance with the ESOS Act, National Code, and related legislation. Key responsibilities
- Provide trusted and confidential advice and support to international students on personal, cultural, academic, welfare, and safety matters.
- Manage a diverse student caseload and support students experiencing complex circumstances and critical incidents.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to achieve positive student outcomes.
- Contribute to student orientation programs, workshops, events, and proactive engagement initiatives.
- Support connection and engagement across the international student community.
- Provide advice across the university on international student needs.
- Support compliance with the ESOS Act, National Code, and related legislation.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of student services.
- Work collaboratively across Swinburne campuses as required.
Requirements
- Experience supporting international students.
- Strong customer-service focus.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills.
- Strong case management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive matters and competing priorities within a regulated workplace.
- Knowledge of the ESOS framework and National Code relating to international student support.
- Experience coordinating student programs or events is desirable.
- A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
- Valid Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- Ability to satisfy Swinburne’s police check requirements.
