The role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Agronomist to join our Agricultural Services team, based at either Harwood or Broadwater. In this senior role, you will influence grower outcomes, support innovation, and help shape the future of sugarcane production across NSW. Reporting to the Agricultural Manager, you will play a key role in supporting NSW sugarcane growers to improve productivity, profitability, soil health and long term farm sustainability through the delivery of high quality agronomic advice and extension services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide specialist agronomic advice to sugarcane growers across a range of production systems
- Support growers with crop establishment, nutrition, variety selection, pest and disease management and irrigation practices
- Promote soil health, nutrient efficiency and sustainable farming systems
- Assist with the evaluation and adoption of new sugarcane varieties and emerging technologies
- Develop and manage extension activities, field demonstrations, grower workshops and information sessions
- Coordinate and participate in industry research projects, field trials and demonstration sites
- Build strong relationships with growers and key industry stakeholders to encourage the adoption of best practice farming methods
- Support initiatives aimed at retaining and expanding sugarcane production within the region
We are looking for:
- Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Technology or a related discipline
- Demonstrated knowledge of crop production and agronomic principles
- Demonstrated experience providing practical agronomic advice directly to farmers
- Strong knowledge of crop production, soil health, plant nutrition and crop management
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, with the capacity to translate technical information into practical on farm solutions
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Current Australian Driver Licence and willingness to undertake regular field travel
- Chemical Accreditation and First Aid/CPR qualifications (or willingness to obtain)
