About the Role

The AOD Registered Nurse works within a multidisciplinary primary health care team to improve the health of people in detention who experience addiction to alcohol and other drugs. The role delivers comprehensive, person-centred AOD care and supports holistic recovery. Operating within a nurse-led clinic model, this role suits clinicians with recent acute experience who are comfortable working at a different pace to hospitals. You will support detainees with complex, multifaceted health needs in a culturally diverse workplace - work that is both clinically challenging and deeply meaningful. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses, the cross-cultural dimensions of supporting detainees from diverse backgrounds make this a particularly resonant opportunity.

Key Duties

- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary primary health care team to ensure coordinated, evidence-based service delivery.
- Assess, plan and implement care based on individual AOD needs, incorporating a holistic, recovery-oriented approach.
- Undertake clinical duties including AOD assessments,



care planning, medication administration and health education.
- Conduct person-centred nursing assessments and participate in case conferences with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage supplies and clinical resources within budget; maintain documentation standards and practise within scope.
- Participate in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.
- Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
- Postgraduate qualification in drug and alcohol health (AQF Level 8 or above) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in AOD-related nursing care.
- Knowledge of contemporary drug and alcohol health service delivery frameworks.
- Ability to prioritise, work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level communication skills, critical thinking ability and adaptability to meet changing client needs.
