About the branch

The Corporate Services Branch is responsible for enabling AFMA to deliver its regulatory and operational objectives through contemporary, sustainable and high-performing corporate services. Working in partnership with business areas across the agency, the branch provides leadership, advice and support across governance, finance, people, technology, legal, communications, property and security functions.

The branch plays a key role in strengthening organisational capability, improving planning and performance, supporting informed decision-making and driving continuous improvement across AFMA. Its focus is on delivering services that are practical, responsive and aligned to the agency's strategic priorities and workforce needs.

About the section

The People, Capability and Engagement (PCE) team delivers integrated people and corporate services that support AFMA's workforce, workplaces and organisational capability.

Responsible for HR, Payroll, Communications, Property and Security functions, the team provides strategic advice and practical services that enable AFMA to build a capable, protected, engaged and future-ready workforce.

What you will do

The Senior Property and Security Officer supports the delivery of AFMA's property, facilities and protective security functions to ensure agency assets, accommodation and security arrangements support business operations.

Working across a diverse portfolio, the role provides advice, coordination and operational support for property, facilities, personnel security and governance activities. The position works closely with stakeholders across the agency and contributes to the continuous improvement of property and security services.

In addition to meeting the work level standards of the position classification, as the APS Level 6 Senior Property & Security Officer, you will be responsible for:

- Supporting the management of AFMA's property, facilities and accommodation portfolio to ensure assets are safe, compliant, fit for purpose and support business operations.
- Supporting the delivery of AFMA's protective security framework, including physical, personnel and information security arrangements, in accordance with government security requirements.
- Providing trusted advice on property, facilities and security matters, identifying risks and delivering practical solutions that support organisational objectives.
- Managing security, procurement and contract administration activities, including security clearances, contractor engagement and service provider performance.
- Supporting governance, compliance and assurance activities, including reporting, audits, committee support and the continuous improvement of security and property processes.




- Building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and positive business outcomes.
- Contributing to strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance AFMA's property, security and corporate service capabilities.

Capabilities & Experience

We are seeking a motivated and adaptable professional who can confidently manage a diverse property and security portfolio while building strong relationships across the organisation.

You will exercise sound judgement, work independently and deliver practical solutions in a complex operating workplace. You will have strong stakeholder engagement skills and a commitment to providing high-quality, customer-focused services.

You will bring:

- Experience in property, facilities, security or corporate services functions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical advice.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
- Sound judgement, problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to risk management.
- Experience in procurement, contract management and service provider oversight.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.

Desirable Capabilities & Experience

- Knowledge of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
- Experience administering personnel security clearances and liaising with AGSVA.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this role applicants must:

- be an Australian citizen;
- have the ability to obtain, and maintain, a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance;
- satisfy the requirements of an Australian Federal Police Check;

Notes

The current opportunity is non-ongoing for an initial period of up to 12-months with the possibility of extension.

This position is located in Canberra, ACT. Successful applicants that are currently not based in Canberra must be willing to relocate to Canberra at their own expense.

The selection panel may intend to use Co-pilot to assist in creating the interview assessment commentary for the selection report. Selection panel members will take notes during the interview, with these combined and summarised by Co-pilot. The selection panel will review the proposed assessment commentary and amend if required, to reflect their assessment.
